    Hey,

I'm thinking of moving to Montréal next summer for a year...
I'm going to apply for the USIT under 35 Canada visa for 2008,(which isn't open yet) but I'm just wondering if any of you know how hard it is to get that visa? Are there alot of places on it?
Just trying to see what my options are for working over there.

    Thanks :)

If you look on the internet you'll find the Canadian site which gives you the number of places on it. Apply early and perhaps you'll get one of them.

I got my visa quick enough through USIT and am leaving in December,, a couple of tips, 1) Get your police cert sooner rather than later, you get this from only certain stations, check on the Garda website, you will need to send them your birthcert and perhaps a passport copy and stamp addressed envelope, 2) If you have lived abroad in the past 5 years you will need to get a police clearance from there (which was a bit of a nightmare for me as we lived in a few places) so do that in plenty of time too

The waiting list is still open for this year so I dont think it is that popular just yet, also USIT has the whole thing stiched up, you HAVE to book your flights through them (even if you can get them elsewhere for cheaper) and same with their travel insurance (there is a big fuss if you dont get it with them) and they will not release your visa until you booked and paid for your flights through them. On top of that, you have to pay USIT a fee also.

Also, you are not meant to have pre-arranged work, but it helps to have a look at www.monster.ca to feel it out

Montreal is such a cool city but it's hard to get work if you don't speak fluent French.

    Cool, thanks for the tips!

Hi, it filled up this year by the start of April. The waiting list is pretty good though and seems to move quickly. I would however advise to apply before the end of March.

I have been on the Under 35 waitlist for a few months now and It re-opens on the 8th of December through Usit. The Student programme is now open as I just checked the site this morning. www.usit.ie.The fees will run to over 500 euro before flights so it seems a little expensive to me,But hopefully worth it.But organise yourself!!..Garda clearance certs etc.Medical is also required.Yuck I am not looking forward to that. But I had to do the same when I lived in Greece .. So I guess it's better to have all above board.
I have been to Montreal and it's a great city,Very lively and not too expensive. But French is a must,I found even the smallest things difficult with my survival french. But The majority of people speak excellent English.
I am hoping to go to Toronto but it looks very expensive, Cost of rent etc.. www.craigslist.com is handy for Housing/jobs etc.
    Vancover looks good so far...
So anyone that has done this Under35 Program ???? And how did u get on?... Is it better to do the application yourself or pay Usit?...

I'm currently over in Calgary on the under 35 program. Was fairly quick through Usit. Approved for my visa in late May and flew out end of August. 1 Year from the day I touched down. Not a bad word to say about Canada.

I think most questions can be answered on this thread. 20 pages but well worth it. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055228037&highlight=canada

You cant do the application yourself, you have to pay USIT.

Theres a huge thread on this (above) from last year if any of you had cared to use the search function.

What kind of work would you be talking if you do have French? Hospitality, admin?
