    Hey Hey,
I'm just wondering if anybody's used one of these? Are they worth the $$?
    Any reviews/thoughts would be great.

    :)

Does it calibrate your monitor and provide an ICC Profile for your printer?

I have the pro version. It's quite good. This dos'nt do anything for your printer though. I only creates profiles for your monitor. Monitor profiles and printer profiles are completely different. One should never be user for the other.

The Spyder Pro 3 includes a half ass program thats supposed to help configure the printer. But it's hit & miss. The only reliable way to color-profile your monitor and printer is with a specialised equipment that is really expensive.

There is another way, though less reliable, still is very good. This tutorial is very good but costs $35 and it's not too easy for a beginner. One things for sure, if you go down this path, you will learn a lot from this.

I have the spider2express and at first , specially at home with my HP 21" CRT, it looks great
But I end up a bit dissapointed
at work I have 2 computers each with an LCD monitor, both NEC, one a 1760VM and the other has a 1770NX
and even after calibrate both with same calibration equipement they are completely different (colour, white point, brightness)

probably that won't happen on CRTs
anyway, I'll recomend you to have one

I don't suppose it's possible to hire one of these, is it?

I don't have a Spyder, but do have an EyeOne Display, and they're well worth having. These guys do good prices, and if you're not in a hurry they usually do free shipping once a month, which does help (I think normally it comes in at around €15). Sign up for their email newsletter and they'll generally spam you about it.

hiring one may not be completely viable really... At least with my one, it has to be recalibrated about once a month. Couldn't hurt to do the first calibration with a loaned/hired unit, but you may end up finding that you need to buy even a basic one.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. AFAIK you're technically supposed to recalibrate every time your ambient light changes, but that's not going to happen!
I was reckoning on doing it once, and then maybe think about buying one eventually.
