    hey guys
im thinking of buying this laptop
but its a core duo, and not a core 2 duo
is there a noticable difference in performance between core duo and core 2 duo

i currently have a white macbook 2gig core 2 duo, but im thinking of selling it and getttin this one below instead because of the the black, the applecare and the software.

    wat do ye all reckon?
    thanks
    ed

I think you would be foolish to move back to a core duo from a core 2 machine. more reading here on the difference. Just google core duo verus core 2 duo and you'll get a better idea...

But to be honest that deal looks too good to be true... He may be selling it with all the software installed but is he supplying all the dvd's and license keys, manuals? or did he just download em and install using a dodgy key..?
For instance, CS3 master suite alone costs over 3k here... why would anyone sell it that cheap..?

he seems fairly genuine to be honest.
    id trust him like
hell be giving the cds for most of the software not all of it though
the laptop has 2 years applecare with it, thas the main reason y im thinkin of changin over,
that and teh fact that its black, black being more robust nall that goes with it
    thanks for teh comment,
    ed

    black being more robust

I'd disagree with that. Certainly would not consider the black to be more robust, the opposite in fact. It has a higher cosmetic appeal for *some* people, and that is about the only difference in the two, except for the occasional bits of black paint you might find flaking onto your desk/floor etc. :D

PS: your sig... if you want to sell an item on boards you need to post it on adverts.ie
Advertising it in your sig and asking people to PM you is against boards.ie rules, just letting you know in case you don't know that. I'd change it before someone reports it!

One of my guys I have working for me had his black MB sent away due to the flaking paint problem and has an issue with a seal on the screen loose (It almost looks like masking tape it is so thin!) ; it most certainly is not more robust than a white MB and is too messy with cosmetic issues to allow for use without worry.

    *sigh*

eurotrotter, if you want applecare why don't you just buy it? You can get it any time within the first year of purchase. Otherwise you're going to the hassle of selling your macbook and buying an older model just because it's black. None of that software is legit, he just downloaded it off the net.

Anyway I agree with decob, this is very very foolish.

Possibly it may be unwanted cover bought off machine that they sold on and never availed off (Sounds odd, I agree) or it may be purchased on the black market or on stolen credit cards. Invariably, if somebody is selling something that is too good to be true online, then it is untrue. Unlike selling on software, you are selling a warranty and insurance second hand; does that sound right?

I have bought applecare from ebay when i had my old ibook......no problem at all. What's important to get is the right serial number from the applecare box
