Throbbing headache back of head

Was doing a chin up type exercise. Basically I start off sitting on a seat thing with my hands on bars level with the seat, then I let the seat drop & pull myself back up. Part of my chest & back routine.

The more weight you add the easier it becomes to lift.

Yesterday I did my first reps, then as I went to lower the resistance I forgot I was meant to add weight & instead dropped it down; meaning I was lifting myself with less support.

Now it felt hard but as I figured I was lifting less I forced myself to do it. What resulted was an intense throbbing pain at the back of my head, lasted about 20 seconds & then faded but was still there for the session & still have it a tiny bit.

Addmittedly my breathing wasn't great & I was gritting my teeth. Could this have been responsible or is it completely abnormal?

Now that that's out of the way... Sounds pretty normal to me. It's happened me a good few times. Normally in the front of my head tho. Normally with me it's caused by holding my breath.

I vouch for the same. Usually when hitting the heaviest weight I can do on a leg press. For me it's the left side of my head and it hurts.

As above I've found it happens when I hold my breath. If you pay attention to the breathing and maintain it as I've done once it started happening it goes away. I think one of the instructors in the gym said to me once that if you hold your breath your blood pressure can increase by 30% (no I don't have links, this is secondhand knowledge and I'm not a doctor, if you are concerned see your GP)

    Second disclaimer:

Hanley + lifting weight = anything but Normal

    See a doctor!

    Hahaha touche.

"Normal" to me is blowing out blood vessels in my eyes and having them blood red for a week or two.
