    hey all,

The title's self-explanatory. I'm living out in elbridge, working on pearse Street, and I want t join a rowing club. Was a member of the Waterford Boat Club for years when i was a teenager, left for the LC and enver had the chance t start up again with college, now that I'm out in the working world I'd like to be in a team again.

I'm not sure what the time tables are like for most clubs with regard to training for competitions, and taking on new members so any information anyone can throw my way would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

I think most of the rowing clubs are based out in Islandbridge along there river there.

www.commercialrc.ie and www.neptunerowingclub.com are the two that are open to the public.

The rest, if memories serves, are UCD, Trinners and the Garda boat club.

If your living in Celbridge there's a rowing club beside Barnhall. It's just on the bridge as you head towards the club. Barnhall is beside Hewlett Packard. Prob easier to say that!

I've seen people Kayaking locally but I assumed that was all they do since I've never seen any 4's/8's?

to be honest I wouldn't have much of a clue. I'd only notice people during the summer. I do remember seeing a 4 people doing it at once though. Prob best to check it out. The Garda or Islandbridge club would prob be the best best as it's right on the bus route to Celbridge

The only river rowing in Dublin is at Islandbridge (e.g Commercial Rowing Club - commercialrc.ie) opposite Phoenix Park). Coastal rowing (a similar, but definitely different sport) is undertaken in Ringsend (e.g. St Patricks). Commercial Rowing Club used to be based in Ringsend, but moved to Islandbridge in 1942 - my back still hurts from all the lifting. ;)

What age would most new members in rowing clubs be?

I'd love to give it a go but am 33. Would I just look ridiculous?!

Theres Commerical and Neptune Rowing Club that's accessible to you as the other's are colleges.

Re the other post about being new-Neptune runs a summer camp for beginners to try it out.
