i have a hewlett packard vectra vl400.dt.i got it second hand but it's still in good nick.i'm looking to increase the capacity of the hard drive.what are the advantages/disadvantages of external hard drives as opposed to boosting the internal memory?also, what type of usb port would be required to run an external drive and how can i tell what type of port is actually on my pc at present?I dont have any instruction manual.

would appreciate it if anyone could point me in the right direction...

Majority of the external hard drives have power supplies so you will need an extra plug is all. Installing an internal hard drive is pretty easy too. Anyway for an external hard drive go to Komplett.ie and look for something from the Western Digital MyBook range, they are decent and quite reasonable. The only thing you may have to worry about is if your USB ports are USB 1.1 which will make transferring a little slower if the external hard drive you purchase is USB 2.0.
