Here's a photo comp for people to get their teeth into...

Looking at last year's winners I doubt anyone would complain about the quality of the pictures :D (although some look so fantastic that I would have said they were definitely altered... there's a special category for altered photos).

Prestige more than the $500 prize money I suppose.

In another news, prices for Adobe's stock just skyrocketed

I don't quite get what you mean? You want to say that this thread is irrelevant? I would not agree as it seems that there are many hobbyists present on the forum who would like to see their work being displayed and this is an opportunity for them to display their creations.

But maybe I'm not understanding you correctly...

No problems - this one seems like a "proper" competition.

I still don't get how Adobe and the halifax debacle are connected? Maybe I just don't get Helios' cyncism/humour (?) or I'm just slow...

He just means loads of people will go out and buy CS3, thus pushing up Adobe's profits and making their shares more attractive and thus the share price going up.

Oh so it was cynicism of a sort ;)
...that reminds me - I should probably upgrade to CS3 :D

I dunno. I split between ACDSee Pro and PSE5 and currently am still not convinced of the merits of CS3 versus a new lens. Someone said there was a new version of GIMP out as well and apart from memory issues I found some attractive features in that.

Whoops - seems like my humour needs to be retuned too :(

No way am I upgrading to CS3 - costs way too for features that I don't need neither now nor probably ever. (Just like the new Word processor - just use 2% of its functions...)

I like new Word but I still have to get used to the interface and customise it.

sorry - I missed that. So many people have a full version of Photoshop that I just take it for granted. Anyway, can't you get a student licence?

Like you I'd prefer to spend the money on a new lens (hoping an AFS nifty fifty will come out...) Studying law and spending hundreds on photoshop have very little correlation (especially when law books also cost hundreds of euro too!)

Sorry to bring this thread so off topic though. Thought people might welcome the fact that there is an artistic photographic competition being held (that Irish photographers are allowed to enter).

Jaysus ... I notice a photo of this guy was one of the finalists last year ... better than mine I hasten to add ... though I still like my version coz the woman on the end is kinda cute ...
