Why do people prefer turbo sngs????

Im a regular at the high stakes non turbo sngs on stars and well when i say high stakes i play basically $50 $100 and the odd $200. this is because the $200-500 games just arent busy. during the day the $200+ games are empty! and in the night i get the odd few but generally speaking the traffic on them is quite poor. strangely the $200-$500 turbo sngs are fairly busy most nights just wondering why is this? personally i think turbos are a crap shoot at this level as even the most successfull players in the world at them only have av. rois of 2-4%!! and surely when ur paying this much into a tourney u want some play like lets say the live 500 euro games in the emporium festival etc had a turbo structure i.e blinds increase every 5 mins i dont think people would want to play them. appreciate any thoughts

In all fairness, when you have $5k and $2k sit'n'gos on stars, i'd hardly class $50 and $100s high stakes!

I play quite a few $50s and i much prefer to play turbos than regular. I mostly play omaha or o8 but not running good! The regular STTs can take over 2 hours to play and as you say, because theres not a lot of traffic around, i dont want to be only playing 1 STT every couple of hours

i played a 55 stt on stars tonight and it took me well over an hour to win it.

wasn't worth it tbh and i only play stts to alleviate some tilt and gamble a bit, so turbos are handy.

turbos are exactly the same except quicker. the best plr's have ROI way higher than 4%

they attract more fish and only take like a second to play

5 minute stars blinds are ok i think. They play fine till 200/400. Full tilt 3 minute blinds are bad.

Once you have players who dont understand pot odds turbos are great value.

Hi Mick, hope all is good

firstly $100 STT's on Stars are found in the high stakes section....Flushdraw :p

secondly, you should post more theory stuff Mick, altho everybody in here "thinks" they are winning players, you clearly are and any imput would be appreciated

    now, why turbos?

    1) they aint really turbos! - 5 min clock gives plenty of play online, average full ring game is 1hr+

    2) more fish/gamblers/donkeys play them and theat's why you should!

    3) you don't have to wait for ages for one to fill...there's is much more traffic and therefore many more bad players

    4) i believe that, in some ways, there is more skill involved in them than the standard games - you need to chose your plays very carefully, there is more presure on you and the others (of course)

    5) the standard games can play a bit nitty, which is fine if that's what you want

The turbo games to tend to get crapshooty pretty quickly - when down to 3/4 players, but i suppose you'd expect that in any tourney?

...i've played a good few turbos with you - is it coz you haven't got the option i suppose?

gl and cya in turboland soon

    bops

    this is true.

and when blinds increasing % - ually, (most likley not aword, my grammar sucks ) a lot to your stack, i mean incrasing quick its able to do alot of stealing and put preassure on players. Its like boubble play all way trough from level 3 :-) love it!

    Stick it in!

i know these arent exactly high stakes but there the highest that do be running thats what i was trying to say. $2k is the highest 9 seat sng on stars and i havent seen a non turbo 1 of them running in a long long time. also i have never had a 9 seater last more than 90-100 mins average 1 is around 80 mins

    Hi Mick,

I really don't know where my post I made earlier went to?

BTW Mods if you have to remove one of my posts for some reason have the courtesy to drop me a PM please and it would be np... thanks..

Anyway welcome again Mick :) it might have been a mention of your huge success that can be seen by anone using a popular SND search engine that got my post wiped?

Mick you would be a huge asset to the forum if you would visit more often... as mentioned earlier it's great to have someone here who is a consistant winner and comforably beats these higher skae SNGS..... I'm no SNG expert but I know a lot of people on here could do with your expertise

regards the turbo SNGS I guess all has been covered above

    continued success

    One of the reason's I play turbo's is;

Sometimes...I get so p1ssed off of getting dogged and dogged by fish and just terrible players that I feel the only way to beat them is push all in pre flop...They'll still call you with A rag and worse...At least if you get dogged your making them pay for it and putting them to a decision...make them think for a nano second as it were.....

I guess it's just good therapy for me to win these by just pushing a decent hand and watch them call with these hands....

This probably makes absolutely no sense at all....But it just feels good to see my AK vs A2 all in pre.....In the first hand..!!

I taught with turbos a winning players roi is lower but their hourly rate is higher.

ye thx paul havent seen u much since i was telling u bout that collusion in june but im well back on track now and comfortably winning.
as regards given help or advice to people im more than happy to offer my opinon to people but the trouble with poker i find is people are very stuborn and rarely admit to bein bad players just blame their luck. i have given many people/friends of mine advice in the past and got the opinion it just went in one ear and out the other. because even though they are consistent losers they are convinced they are making the right decisions when there cleary not.
i recently had a debate with a guy (losing player) about why u should limp out of position in the early stages with small pairs and almost alwasy raise with AA. he kept trying to argue his point to me and just wouldnt listen to me! very annoying! in the end i kinda just said ok u just keep doin what ur doin then im just trying to offer some help.

in Crown they ran a 5k rebuy SNG with 10 minute levels with what looked like wealthy businessmen who were there for the races. I really really wanted to play because I thought I would have a big edge. Then I realised it is an insane amount of money for a turbo SNG with about 5 hands per level.

More like 2 hands per level

    Hi Mick,
Nice to meet you. I think you will find that the vast majority of players you meet on Boards will react positively to advise from top players. I'm not a great player, but I'm good enough to know when to shut up and start listening to advice! Your thoughts and words of advice would be very welcome here!

There hasn't been any deleted posts in this thread.:confused:

If you are talking about sharkscope, there's nothing against people talking about it. It's against Stars T&C's now, but we can still talk about it, it's not illegal or anything.
