Ok, so we all love to reminisce about the great cartoons; What about the stuff that you hated?
    Mine would be stuff like:
    Sharky & George
Spartacus (end credits were about 10 minutes long)
Space Ghost (remember him? not to be confused with Ulysses, which rocked)
Any of those badly dubbed German shows, there were a few on the Den over the years. No idea what any of those were called.

I found an old diary from 1986 (when i was 7) and in it was a good bit on space ghost - as a 7 year old i rated him very highly!

I agree though about sharky and George

I really hated kit and kaboodle (think it was Australian)
Also hated round the twist (it seemed tto center around toilets and a wierd lighthouse)
    The Rimini Riddle

Yeah I really hated Sharkey and George, plus anything on BBC2 and Channel 4.
Now they are my fave channels.

Oh I hated The News at six cos I had to watch it all before the 5 minutes of cartoons came on.
I hated all the football on a Saturday - I really couldn't understand why there was so much football! Now I love it!

I hated Songs of Praise and the Antiques Roadshow!

Beachcombers - that scruffy dude with the tatty woolly hat especially freaked me out. Also hated the theme tune

Follyfoot Farm - never cared for horses. Plus, the theme tune sucked

The Sullivans - lasted longer than WWII and had a rotten theme tune

Gentle Ben - had an annoying kid in it. Don't remember the theme tune but no doubt it was cr&p.

I hated Round the Twist too, now I have it's dreadful dreadful theme song stuck in my head... :(
The 6 o' news always annoyed me as well, it took away from valuable Simpsons time...

    Indeed.

I hated all the "girly" cartoons.

    Sylvanian Families.

    Mrs Pepperpot.

    Care Bears.

    She-ra.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,309 ✭✭✭✭Bard

    The Fiddley Foodle Bird.

    Seriously.

Playschool and Blue Peter were too damn "british" for want of a better word.

The kids on them seemed to be too goody-two-shoes or something. Nary a hint of divilment in them.

And the Enid Blyton tv shows. Gah. I hated the accents, still do.

Off the top of my head:

    Grange Hill
    Biker Grove
    Thundercats
The Magic Roundabout (just something about it used to freak me out)
    Little House on the Prarie
    The Waltons

Glenroe. Opening credits meant 30 minutes until bedtime and school the next day :( Closing credits meant bedtime was upon me :(

I also didn't like "Where in the world?"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,300 ✭✭✭nice1franko

cities of gold used to wreck my head although that too had a good starting song.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 284 ✭✭Holmer

Aaargh It's all flooding back!!! Pretty much agree with every selection (the hellish torture of Follyfoot Farm, which I thought I had successfully repressed). Why Don't You-smug little toffs, all of them. The one I referred to as Spartacus, is that actually called Cities Of Gold? Are they the same thing?

    Yep , Glenroe = "Fun's Over"

Mysterious Cities of Gold was another one I didn't like. Figured I didn't give it a chance as a kid so I'm watching it again now on youtube. Guess what, it ain't that good.

The Mysterious Cities of Gold was brilliant.

You just wish you were as cool as Esteban and got to fly a giant gold condor.

I absolutely hated Bagpuss and I never ever watched Blue Peter.

It kind of did! That and Grandstand on BBC. (which had one of the greatest theme tunes ever :) )

    On my youthful hate list:
    Sesame Street
    Animaniacs
    Cow and Chicken
    Aladdin
    Captain Planet

    I preferred Blockbusters and Countdown.

Not really a cartoon either, but waiting for the simpsons on sky1 at 7, and that god awful bollocks M*A*S*H used to be on.

Hated Dangermouse. Controversial I know, but I just never liked it.
Smarmy little know-all mouse with irritating accent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,109 ✭✭✭Sarn

Woody woodpecker and The Money Show used to be on Sunday nights and always reminded me of school the next day. Still sends a shiver down my spine.

There were a few shows I had a love/hate relationship. Worzel Gummidge (sp?), watched it but was kind of freaked out by it. Willo the Wisp also fit into this category. Animaniacs I'd watch on occassion but found irritating as well.

    .

Same for me except the show was That's Life.

Of course, it was also detestable in it's own right.

Also Emmerdale(Farm), on TV in the afternoon after coming home from school, the mother always had that on along with The Sullivans, Country Practice, Upstairs Downstairs etc. Also stupid British shows like Blankety Blank, Late Late Breakfast Show, Blind Date. Used to love Mastermind though.

Used to hate "This is your Life", the parents never missed it, f**king Eamon Andrews every week with his red book frightening the bejezus out of some poor unsuspecting celebrity. They always that some old fella saying "Johnny I knew it was you who stole my apples when you were 7, but I always knew you'd come good" in the background and low and behold he would come out from behind the scene with all hugs and kisses for the celebrity.

Oh yeah, well they are all bad but what about this Finger f*cking mouse
I mean there was no cartoons, no explosions, no cool stuff made from your ma's tights, 3 eggboxes and pipe cleaners. It was mainly music and you were supposed to learn something.

Oh Christ, here he is. I think we need to set some of those cat pictures on him, the little sh1t.

def another Sharkey and George hater
    also
    Count Duckla
    Danger Mouse
    The Racoons
    Beachcombers
    Worzel Gummage
Thomas the tank engine - lol because my nerd cousin(also called Thomas) loved it and wore jumpers of it until he was about 10
    Byker Grove
    Thunderbirds
I've forgotten the name all of a sudden but that show on Super channel that had a tv presenter cat with a broken arm and ostrich lady
Transformers - once they started hanging out with people eg "gee Optimus prime I feel bad because i can't tie my showlaces".."Well Tommy was I was litte...."blah blah :D
Stupid cartoons with laugh tracks from the 60s/70s - flintstones/Jetsons etc
Wizbit - his freaky painted yellow hands!

Yes,opening credits of Glenroe=30 mins till the end of weekend, then Monday morning! Depression, homework not done,....anyway thats a different thread.
I also hated the programme itself though.

Rentaghost was particularly unwelcome on my TV years back as was little house on the prarie.
Also the ITV version of match of the day on Sunday afternoons (1970's)
And the news, all because my grumpy old relation from the sticks was up for my birthday and insisted on watching it even though I told him about my favourite spiderman cartoon also on at the same time.:D

    Video recorder/second TV? You're havin' a laugh

God I loved the telly except these. Play away ,it used to be on a saturday afternoon. Then there was this god awful welsh speaking show on early sat morning on htv.Magpie was another one. One thing that really used to bug me was watching rte on a sunday when the Disney theme would come on with that scene of the fairy waving her wand over the castle and you thought to yourself " brillant a cartoon is coming on" but oh no it would be some stupid story about a cat and a dog who were lost and trying to get home oh and while I'm at it Black beauty was tripe. Now I feel better
