Im totally confused at the moment about what to believe. We were doing it in class today ( Im in 5th year by the way ) when discussing about mitosis and my teacher said that the chromosones duplicate during the early prophase but the book says that it happens during interphase when the cell is resting and not reproducing. When I questioned him about this he said that the book was wrong.

There are 4 phases in the cell cycle:

    G1 (first growth)

    S (synthesis of DNA)

    G2 (second growth)

M (mitotic phase), which is subdivided into P, M, A, T and cytokinesis.

Chromosomes are replicated in S phase, i.e. long before the prophase of mitosis.

So your teacher is wrong and the book is correct

he's only an lc student! pro, met, ana, tela ..... he is taught that S phase is a dormitory phase in the LC, man what a bad course, I hated photo and resp back then because they wouldn't go into any depth so it was hard to understand it, but once you get into it in college the mechanics are basic enough
