Antique Engagement rings

    Hi folks,
Great advice on this forum so far for a person completely ignorant about rings like myself. Hope someone can help on this one.

I'm about to pop the question (feels weird typing that) and I'd like herself to choose the ring so won't buy until afterwards.

She is into costume jewellery (Rhinestones has been a lifesaver for me over the last few Christmasses).

    1) Anyway first question is - anyone know anywhere that I might find a beautiful antique engagement ring. I have no idea at all and Im not sure if she does. Id like to be able to guide her round the shops rather than getting the yellow pages out:confused: So if anyone can recomend any or a few in Dublin I'd appreciate it.
A few people have named more contemporary shops and I will check them out as well.

    2) Also, if we see one that she likes, how long will it take to get from the jeweller if it needs resizing?

    3) I may as well chance this one, Im going to propose in Barcelona - is there any point in me checking out jewellers over there?

    Thanks everyone,
    Rosen

There are a couple of very good antique shops who specialise in jewellery down here in Galway....

Mosts shops will need a couple of days to get the sizing done properly.

With antique rings, most of what you look at will be a once off, so look in every shop until you see one that she just can't leave behind.

    Best of luck.

Yes, there's a few antiques jewellers in the Grafton street area, best thing is to take out the golden pages to find them.

Most rings can be resized in the same day, worst case it'd be the next day.

    Good luck with the hunt!

My ring is an antique ring. It's 18ct gold and has a ruby flanked by 2 diamonds in princess setting.

I LOVE IT! We found it by accident, we were wandering around Dublin city centre and looked in a couple of places like Rhinestones but didn't see anything that jumped out at us.

We then saw a sign for an antique fair that was taking place in the Hilton hotel, just by the Charlemont luas stop, on our route home. We stopped in and had a look around. There were about 3 rings that I saw that day that I liked and then we found the one I got and I just knew it was my ring as it fit me perfectly!

Moral of the story is: it's definitely worth dropping into random things like this as you never know! :)
