Buying a TV from the UK

    Hi,
Am thinking of buying a TV from the UK and importing into Ireland.
    I have two options:-

1.) Some online shops do ship to Ireland (not many), they use a courier service. However not sure if i would get stung by customs...

2.) My parents live in the UK, they could get the TV and we send them the money. They send the TV via courier and mark as a gift would that get stung by customs??

The TV we are looking at works out 300 euro cheaper with both methods which is why i am interesting in doing it...

Anyone have any similar experiences to look out for?
    Cheers

you don't pay customs on any goods coming from within the EU.

I bought my TV from laptopsdirect, and found them excellent to deal with.

Aren't TVs on different systems or something or has that all changed now with Digital and HD etc? When we bought our TV over from the UK a few years ago it only worked via the sky box not with aeriel. Mightn't be an issue for you. Have you thought of driving up to the North of Ireland to get it? We drove from Dublin last week to Belfast, from what I saw Newry has a great array of shops.

Yeah, UK transmissions only use UHF, whereas here, we use both UHF and VHF (depending on whereabouts you are - cablecos use VHF too).

Many TVs nowadays seem to be UHF and VHF anyway, though is always a good idea to be sure before going ahead to buy.

Another shop worth looking at is Misco.co.uk, though you need to phone them to order in Ireland. Richersounds.ie also have good deals from time to time though postage can be pricey.

    I got my 32" Lcd from laptops.co.uk

Postage was expensive enough but overall it was cheaper then buying here and I had no issues.
