Eircom DNS NSLOOKUP

    Hi,

    Who does Eircom use to lookup their DNS queries. Who are eircom name server lookup ?

    ISPs and the like do not use individual DNS servers in the way you seem to expect, they use and array of different distributed name servers (though they cache the results to make it more efficient).

    e.g. to lookup gmail.google.com the eircom DNS server will;

    1; lookup the a root DNS server to find out which DNS server has the .com records.

    2; on the .com DNS server lookup what server has .google records

    3; on the .google DNS server, locate the gmail server record - this record alone has the IP address for gmail.google.com

    So there isn't an individual upstream DNS server for Eircom.
