Seen this on one of my cousins sites there tonight and it was surprisingly good, it was very accurate and documented the situation well. They also didnt finish it in a Clìche way which was great.
It wasnt just some kid getting lucky wins the WSOP so id dare to recommend it. 4/5.

it sucks, its something you'd show your girlfriend if she didnt like you playing poker. it basically turns the world series in to a love story. id recommend never to take joe's film advice ever again

thought it was ok for novelty value but then I'm not a big romantic like Joe

you see thats the type of talk that turns the women away Marc, you heard it here first!
I think its a great mix between love and poker, where the two can finally co-exist.

It passed an hour and half for me on a sunday afternoon, and long story short "its not that bad"

My values may well be skwed having only just seen the eastenders clip an hour before this.

I too seen the link, and knew it was a set up, but had never seen that link and in my curiosity I went ahead and watched it. I immediately regreted that decision,.

with reards the film.... was the slowroll of the str8 flush the worst ever? and the lady congratulating him... I'd have come across the table for him.....

Watchable but for the slowrolling... I was actually waiting for him to slowroll the AA on the end........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,900 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

poker in films = slowing rolling straight flushes
    standard

i thought parts were very far fetched, like when he misses the bet by 2 seconds.come on!and i thought the ending was stupid.yeh it wasnt a cliche but it was stupid.

    This Film Is Shocking!!!!!!!

In cinema, poker geniuses demonstrate their sick poker playing ability by making straight flushes when everyone else has made a flush, full house, quads, etc. Or by staking everything on a 1 outer which hits.

I watched this on a plane so probably didn't really pay attention but...I thought the poker scenes were actually okay, surprisingly so. The hero mainly won with average hands at best, not showing his genius by going on a sick run of cards, like when he called your man with 2 3. The end was very cheesey but at least it was a bit different and the Farha Moneymaker reference made me laugh at least...The rest of the film is absolute cack, though.

They made a big thing about the first time holecard cameras were used and yet no one picked up on what went on the hand between Huck & his dad

Some of it was OK, the poker scenes were better done than most films. Slowroll was pathetic but it does happen in real life! At least the commentator commented on how rare it was for him to get a straight flush - first time however many years at a final table etc.

    Average love story at best.

The poker room at the Bellagio was a set built with all the fitting from the Bellagio before it got refitted (The producers managed to buy it all from the Bellagio).

All the hands shown were apparently based on real hands. Doyle Brunson explains when some of them took place in the extras bit on DVD. The 23 involved Chip Reese.

i know i thought that too but its coz when there talking about the hole card thing they say huck is the only one that hasnt been showing his cards to the cameras so its never spotted...

I think I'd go with the amusing distraction for 1.5 hours. Average but watchable. The romance didn't do it any favours. Curtis Hanson (director) has a decent record. Anyone know where the heck the Burt Reynolds poker movie dissappeared to? Must be a total disaster. Ah there it is - Deal - seems to be in trouble.

was it not his dad that said he wouldnt as he had been winning for years etc.

Ok all the experts write a better ending?
