I been playing since May this year, with good help from a good player. had only been playing SnG on stars to learn what I thought would be a faster way...

Been doing well at low stakes tables and decided after coaxing off Themadchef to try a cash table! but wasnt too sure what level to start at.
I have a small BR so no point in playing out my depths.

I am currently on a fast no limit table playing 0.10/0.15 and doubled my bankroll since sitting down!

What do you guys advice, Im only used to the STTs and dont know If I should just play the same way which has won me a good few tourneys since starting....
Any advice would be great cheers :)

First question .. what is your bank roll ?
Second question ... .what level sng did you play (and what was your win rate) ?

i always try work to a min 20 buy in rule, so for example if playing .50/1 you should have a bank roll of at least 2k : 20 max buy ins of 100$ use that same formula towards your bankroll and u want go wrong.

edit: i play with a min of 20 buy ins at my level to allow for the variance you can encounter.

    good luck at the tables

My 2c: Don't play cash on Stars...iPoker is a long way softer for cash games. My winrate has doubled since moving. Play a level that you have 20 buy-ins for. I started my poker playing with STT's and there's a lot to learn in moving to cash. You're playing a lot deeper in general, and you're put to a lot more tough decisions on all streets, where in STT's its mostly a pre-flop and flop game.

Im embaressed on my low low bankroll of 50. i originally was playin $5 sng, but since i was new I was loosing my money fast. so i switched right down to $1 till I got more practise in. Now I play 9 handed tables and sometimes 18. I pretty much get in the money for 80% and its sillyness like trying a higher stakes table the odd time that brings the BR back down.

I dont want to thrown too much on it right now, before Xmas. yanoo.. but want to keep\ playing and learning

The problem I have is that it was a player transfer through stars that gets my money online. Thats why I stuck to stars. I ave noticed a BIG difference on the way people play right enough.

I started with an initial deposit of 50 aswell. and I've only topped it up with one 50 since so its definitely possible to buld up from there.
Start playing 2c/4c or whatever and see how you get on. Post any hands you think you could've played better here for criticism. If you're competent you should be able to move through the micro-limits in maybe 15k hands each, and you can probably get away with <20 buy-ins up to .25/.50.

Play the $0.01/$0.02nl tables on Stars. Buy in for $2 per table (100 Big Blinds) and read the micro-limit forums on 2+2.

Some useful Links, i made the move from sngs to cash a few months ago and to be honest there 2 completely different games, if your following the same strategy your going to be in trouble in cash games, but with alot of reading and posting hands you should be able to beat the micro limits in a few weeks

hey good luck with this hope u do well. i started off in an almost identicle situation as u. had a $50 bankroll started playing 5c 10c cash and $5 sngs. kept working my way up through the levels and withinh 6-9 months was multitabling $2 $4 cash before switching to $100 sngs. thats the only deposit i ever made so just letting u know it can be done so goodluck. oh and cash games arent for every1 dont feel like u have to play them just because 90% of the full time grinders play them. personally i dont play cash anymore and do very well at sngs. try the cash games out and if u find their not for u stick to the sngs.

Thanks for all the advice, you guys are a great help. I tend to read here more than post tbh. And as for HH, I will if I have the guts post them, if my mentor too busy to check them :)

I am really wanting to get into playing live. I only played that one small tourney in Buncrana in July. But I dont like the thought of walking into one of these places myself. So its difficult!

I dont know that many players around Letterkenny

I did enjoy the cash game actually. The fella that tought meI suppose taught me the basics about good hands and such, but I think when it came to the cash tables I knew I couldnt just be silly like you can be in a $1 SnG, and waited patiently till I had something and then applied the same rules on the amount to raise the pot that I would at a tourney. Im up $30 on last night, so with my small BR thats a good bit.
I just love poker now :) amazing how a chance meeting gets you into something you REALLY enjoy !

And you guys are the best :D

Don't be afraid to post about any hands you're unsure of. Some of the responses you get might seem harsh but they are constructive in general and it can only help you improve in the long run.
If you're really serious about building the bankroll, make sure you operate good bankroll management. Whoever is mentoring you should be able to give you advice on this, though it has been mentioned to stick to having at least 20 buyins for any level you play. I would say at least 30 would be better. Good luck anyway.

Some good advice there for you Gill, one thing I'd also add, make sure your mentor actually has cash game experience and isn't just a tournament player. If he hasn't played cash games before for an extended period, you'd probably be better off sticking to posting up hands and using this forum for advice, if things he says don't make sense or sound wrong. There's alot of people around (here included) who completely over exagerate their Poker prowess.

Also $50 is nothing to be ashamed of, I'd say the majority of people here started with a $50 deposit or 2 (about 10 in my case ) before they actually started to find out about the nuances of the game and play it properly, at least you're going about it the right way, using a mentor and posting here.

    Best of luck with it.

Oh dont worry, my mentor wont be afraid to give me harsh critisism lol... Been there and still came back for more :)

    And Thanks!

He plays both cash and SnG, I have never asked for advice on cash from him, but did sit playing SnG with him a few times while I learned. And I have a couple of good books borrowed that help alot with understanding about position etc, when Im played the live tourney in Buncrana I didnt have a clue as I had only played for 6 weeks. although I did ok :D

Well that attitude will serve you well. Now get yourself over to the HH forum and start posting on people's hands and wait for the responses, it's by far the best way to learn the game, don't be afraid to post things, and if they end up being wrong just listen to the advice and try to take it on board.

    Good luck again.

What? like when they say what now? I post what I would have done? I look at the HH part of the forum alot and do think on my own actions, but since Im so green didnt want to look foolish posting :)

Yep, that's exactly what I mean.... post away and even if you think it will make you look foolish, you'll learn 50 times faster by actually having to put something down in writing explaining why you think something and then engage in a conversation about it, even if you're wrong, you've no idea how much you can learn in even just a couple of minutes a day.

Even just try one and see how it goes. It can be daunting, but once you don't get upset if people disagree with you and take on board what is said it will help your game immeasurably, and very quickly too.
