I had that last week, and so did my dad who lives around the corner - might have been a coincidence I suppose. We unplugged the box and when it was back on was fine again. It has happened before but the picture used to break up first then freeze, this was like it was paused. Will be interested in the replies you get.

Happening to me aswell, thought my Sky box was on it's way out. I found turning off the "instant rewind" stops the box freezing. Only down fall is that you wont be able to pause and rewind live TV.

I plugged it out came back ten minutes later plugged it back in and it wouldn't come outta standby! Left it till i came home from work today and it stil wouldn't come on, so I had to format the hard drive on it, lost all my recordings but it's back working properly now...

Gaz15 - why did you have to format your harddrive? And if it wouldn't come out of standby, how did you actually format the harddrive?
I had the same problem on Friday night. I inadvertantly powered off the box (mistook it for my laptop power socket) and instantly powered it back on. However, it just was stuck in standby. Tried powering it off again but the same result.

I thought it might come back online later that night - but not a chance. Phoned Sky on Saturday morning. The lady advised me to press the BACK UP button at the front of the box. While keeping it pressed, power off at the mains. I then had to power back on at the mains (while keeping the Back Up button pressed). This started a re-load of the box which would last 10 minutes.

Anyways - after this finished, i had to power off and on again, and it worked. Didn't lose any of my saved programs/films or anything! Phew!!

I tried updating the software 2 or 3 times but it never worked, so formated it by hold the 2 buttons either side of select and then when all the lights came on I hit select, wiped everything off but at least it is back working.

Either way I was losing everything as if that hadn't worked I would have needed a new box

My sky plus is freezing too. Poxy.
I thought it was a reception problem, but I noticed that if I rewind and playback the station the shoz plays back through the section it was frozen fine, for example if it freezes during a match at 50mins for 3mins, if I rewind and play i'll have all the match between 50 and 53. So that means that the box is recieving the signal fine while it is frozen.w

I didnt see this thread as i had something similar, mine's wouldnt rewind or do a live pause in the thread below yours.

Yeah mine done that as well for some reason when i was watching The Panel, but as the last poster said it didnt disrupt recorded playbacks, but i didnt know that then as i was wanting to record The Sopranos 1st ep that nite & for that to happen!

I rang Sky for info as i couldnt find the manual, the info i got was turn the box off at the mains for few mins & turn it back on & it seemed to work ok !

But i noticed something about the machine in standby & wouldnt come on with the remote control, so i just pressed in the button & came on!

As someone mentioned it wouldnt come out of standby for them, maybe just press the button on the box itself to see if it can be solved by that IMO.

Must have a look for that manual, cos im not gonna ring sky back in a hurry, As i couldnt get off the phone with yer wan on about her sky+, Jeez  should have put the phone on l/speaker & up on the shelf or something! :D

Same thing with us. Got sky+ in june, Every few weeks the picture starts freezing, and when you change the channel, its fine for 5 seconds and freezes again. Plug box out, its fine again for a few weeks, but thats not acceptable. Last time it happened we called sky and they went through some stupid thing in the service menu, which essentially was like just plugging the box out, and back in. He said if it happens again that they will send an engineer out. Would hate to need a replacement box though, all our recordings would be lost!!!!

I got my sky box in September and again only recent have I started to experience all the problems reported here. Box turns itself to standby, canot turn on for 5/10 mins, hanging live tv, hanging/stuck replays, etc.

Are people only starting to get these problems like me or do they go back months/years?

It feels as if some code Sky is starting to transmit is screwing up the boxes.

I turned off live rewind and Anytime Tv now to see if it helps.
What a pain in the rear - you loose half the point of having Sky+ in order to avoid hangs.

    My box is a Pace
    model 4.044
    version 9F2212
    OS Version 1.31B03
    EPG software 5.02.f

Does this match others with problems?

    Cheers:mad:
    James.

    Woo lucky google hit

    Check out the following

    http://www.pvrwire.com/2005/09/17/new-sky-software-problems-begin/

Sky software updates are usually carried out during the night over-the-air, but the most recent update has introduced a startlingly high number of problems, including:

    Loss of live pause functionality
    Excessive recording failures
Slowness in response of the EPG

Picture freezing during playback of recorded programs
    Missing programs from the planner
Spurious shutting down of the box
    Search and scan freezing
    Complete system hang-up
Incorrect program descriptions in the EPG
