Can you remember? If so select a value from the list. No need to mention companies, sex, age or any other details. Just looking for very raw figures and LOTS OF THEM so please select if you remember.

*p.s. only category B cars, not motorcycles please

It's kind of pointless without factoring in inflation.

For example, a £1,000 premium 20 years ago would be significantly different from the €1,269 direct exchange rate now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,958 ✭✭✭Fobia

€2372 on a 1.7 Diesel, 18 years old on first provisional.

I'm presuming people won't remember their premium if it was 20 years ago!

OK, if we can keep it to 1st premiums in the last 5 years

I was 21 and had a 2nd provisional license at the time.

    In 1991 my first car was a 1980 Citroen Dyane 6 - aged 17 - Full UK licence, paid £310 TPF&T. (Car cost £75)

Corrected for inflation (£483) and converted to Euro - €696.

I've heard of 17 year olds now paying £800-1200

about €1800 TPFT for a 1.1 litre Ford Fiesta in 2005. I was on my 3rd provisional at the time.
Unfortunately the premium has not dropped as I much as I would have liked.

I paid just over €500 in May (I work for an insurance company, and get half price insurance. So full price is about €1100)

    First provisional - fully comp

    ETA car: 1.4 Seat Ibiza '96 and I'm 22

    €2090, first provisional, was 23, 1.0l ibiza

26, 1st prov, €1300 or thereabouts for fully comp, 00 punto.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 221 ✭✭j1979p

I find it amazing the range of prices!

Like the 23 year old guy who paid €3,300 tpft for a 96 1.4 ibiza having a full licence

and then the the other 26 year old guy paying €1300 for fully comp 00 punto on 1st prov license!

And then of course u have the females which are generally half price!

Even the guy who is paying €500. Although it is less than half price, even the full price of €1100 seems very low for 1st prov, fully comp for a 22 year old!

Where do they get these figures from?!

I have to say mine seemed to be a bit of an anomaly, my punto isnt elx which made about 250euro of a difference and anything other than this model or make would have had me paying around the €1800-€2000 mark, one of the main reasons i ended up buying the car, saving quite a bit on the premium compared to the other usual ridiculous quotes.

In 1998 i paid about £2,500 (fully comp). the folloing year for no reason at all it was £3,500 ???

You should also take into account whether these prices are peoples own policies or just as a named driver on a policy in their parents name for example as many young drivers do.

My own first policy was €3200 fully comp on a 94 Nissan Sunny 1.4 petrol valued at a whopping €600 - on 1st provisional.

Now less than 2 years later my premium is about 1/3rd of what it was thanks to some NCB and a full license.

Well, finally got my own quote and bought it!

Got quoted around €1800 from most of the companies (e.g. Hibernian) but was quoted only €1300 from QD (all TPFT)!

    Ford Fiesta 1.3L, 99D, 28 yo male.

Seems like QD are the cheapest for first time drivers alright.

    1300 on a 93 fiesta, then 1600 on a rover 200, then 1250 on a 1.4 charade---all on provisional and tpft.
now 780, fully comp on a 1.5, 03 almera with full license.
