O put my money where my mouth and bought a PS3 yesterday, got it and Casino Royale, Motor Storm and Resistance, and I dearly wanted another game but was at a complete loss as what to buy.
I mean, I hae everything worth having on the 360 already, and there seems to be few titles exclusive to the PS3 I can pick up, aside perhaps for F1.
Worse than that, I find myself drawn back to the 360 for PGR4 and the Wii for a blast of Metroid, and thats within 24 hours of buying a new console, unheard of!
Whats the deal here, am I so jaded of the next gen scene that a whole new console bored me no sooner than the packaging is removed?
    Help me someone please!!!

If everything worth getting you have on the 360 why did you buy a PS3?

I'm still asking myself that a week after buying a PS3:p
Resistance isn't all that bad once you get into it (I played it between bouts of Metroid Prime), and ratchet & clank should be arriving soon... other than that it's a waste of €500
(it upscales dvds VERY nicely though, so kudos for that...)

Welcome to the club....have asked myself the same question weekly since the
    PS3 launch.

Hope you like watching blu-rays, playing demos and waiting for PS3 games ;)

I hear there might be some killer PS3 games 'coming soon' :D

    Took the plunge myslef yesterday.

Am impressed by the quietness of it compared to the nuclear powered hum of my 360! Got a blueray Casino Royale too, looks amazing in Hi def.

Have to admit a small bit of buyers remorse though, after playing motostorm and Lair all day yesterday (both of which are amazing looking), the Xbox got plugged back in again.

Although I'm gonna download warhawk and am looking forward to Haze.

(BTW, bought in a mad impulse after convincing myself the backwards compatabilty was essential.)

    Same here:p
I've only tried playing Devil May Cry 3 in BC on it so far, and that looked fairly ropey, even with upscaling on... I'll have to have a proper fiddle around with it during the week.

The low noise really is fantastic compared to the jet engine sounding 360, and the PS3 is starting to grow on me slowly... All I need now is some more games for it.

    HAZE_KoRn.jpg

"Gaming for me is a religion and Haze is the sh1t!" said Jonathan Davis, Korn lead singer. "I had to come up with a track that can hit up that kind of rush I get from the game and I think we really rocked it!!"

So you know it must be good! ;):D

jesus, korn are looking a bit fat and old these days

Rock and roll life-style coupled with a LOT of selling out takes its toll on a man! :D

Only kidding, I don't have enough interest in Korn to know the exact quantity of their selling out.... I presume it's a lot... going by this.... and the Ray-Bans you can buy from their website....

I've a funny feeling that Haze is going to be painfully average. You heard it here first.

Seriously considering getting a PS3 after work today. Is it worth paying the extra 200 euro for backward compatibility, or should I just go with the new version and keep my PS2 plugged in for Ico and Shadow Colossus?

i don't really play ps2 games on my ps3, despite the upscaler, it still looks "meh" on the hd-tv. it's a lot nicer to have the ps2 plugged into a "normal" tv because it keeps the graphical fidelity you remember.

it's worth the extra money if it's a better bundle i'd say. at least then you get games you can trade in and what not

Only tried God of WAR2 and SOTC on the PS3 ,yeah theres a difference alright. I reckon its worth it.

Just after buying my PS3. 500 Euro for the 60G machine and two games. Quite pleased with it, as the same bundle was 600 euro in Xtravision.

Got same deal as yourself. Delighted with it. Had to bring back the first one there was a problem with the HDMI port. Then the one I got yesterday sounds like its grinding the game. Sounds a bit like the PS2....

    Anyone else experience this?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,339 ✭✭✭✭tman

I thought €500 was the retail price for the 60GB version with 2 launch titles?
Fairly cheeky of xtravision to be charging more than that, especially seeing as it's €500 anywhere else that I've looked

Well, I love the fact that my living room no longer sounds like a hovercraft is taking off when I switch the PS3 on and I really like Motorstorm, Resistance seems a but lightweight, I mean it seems to be full of detail, just lots of brown and grey detail.
The new God of War is the one I want, Sony have never done the FPS very well so Haze means nothing to me.
As for the machines abilities the two, 360 and PS3 are too close to call, not like the Xbox and PS2, so I guess I'll simply get the better featured version of a given game on whichever format that happens to be.
The main reason I bought the PS3 is in the hopes of a large range of exclusives as the PS2 had, an eclectic mix of adventures, arcade action and racers that the PS2 did so well, now I'm not so sure devs are going to concentrate their efforts on exclusives, I see more and nore games going multiformat and so my purpose of owning a PS3 evapourates.
Lets face it, I'm waiting for a new Ico or SOTC, and there's none on the horizon!

that's bizzare. the ps3 has no widespread issues at all. in fact, most returns are because people think the fans are too loud (because it's reported to be "silent" rather then "near-silent" or "very quiet"). strange to have two major issues in a row. maybe the store you got it from "dropped" a box or two...

It was late when I was playing it so didnt chance games. and it was big fight Night just out of the box, theres loads of loading it that game, was going nuts. I've my fingers crossed its the game. It's a heavy lil b@stard to lug in on the bus

Folklore, Heavenly Sword, Loco Roco, Super Stardust HD, Gripshift, Everyday Shooter are all exclusives currently out that I've enjoyed greatly - and in particular Folklore and Loco Roco are the sort of games that I just don't think you'll ever see on a western console like the 360, while Heavenly Sword puts an emphasis on great story telling that has previously been untapped by "next-gen" machines.

Most of those games have demos, and the ones that don't cost under a fiver on PSN. Ratchet & Clank is also out this week, as is the Uncharted demo, as is Call of Duty 4 which is multiplatform but you may prefer to play it with a silent PS3 than with a 360. I also love Formula 1 but it's very much made for fans of the sport so you may not like it otherwise.

If you're into multiplayer online FPS type stuff then Warhawk is popular, I had a little fun with it but I tend to get bored of those games fast - it's definitely far superior to Resistance though.

Could be quite a while before they come up with the next game, 2009 at the earliest! 2001 for ICO and 2006 for SOTC. It'll be worth the wait though. For now look forward to MGS4 next summer i suppose:).

Im holding off on the 360 or PS3 until next summer at the earliest anyway. The new price point for the 40GB is tempting but theres nothing i want to play aside from maybe Assasins Creed and Call of Duty. As for the 360, i dunno. Still undecided on that one.

Ratchet & Clank is well worth a look. I've been playing the import, it's great stuff. I think it's out here on Friday.

CoD4 is out on Friday too, I think - looks like a must buy, whatever platform you get it on.
