I keep getting a popup saying something about a Trojan. It links me to some site on IE asking me to purchase an anti spyware. I use Mozilla so its unusual.

Should I run Windows Defender or what should I do?

Its a new computer and have been careful so far so want to get rid of it asap.

    Any help??

Sounds like adware, trying to get you to spend money on a virus tool that's probably a virus itself. Whatever you do, don't buy it ;)

Try Ad-Aware free edition, and download avast! antivirus, cant think of the link but it's in the freeware sticky.

Try running Spybot-Search and Destroy and AVG Anti-spyware in Safe Mode.

Everyone will tell you different software to run to get rid of it. Run what you have installed already, Windows Defender. Make sure its up to date and get it to do a full scan.

Run an anti-virus scan while your at it. Worth doing once a day.

I use Windows Defender alongside AVG Anti-Virus. They work well together and don't hog much space.

    This should sort you out.

Running Windows Defender if you have it, would be a good start.

You've probably been infected with some nasty adware - the tool that's making that popup is most likely a trojan itself.

Take the domain name (just the -domainname-.com part) from the link the popup wants you to go to and enter it here: http://www.siteadvisor.com/

Most likely you will find that it's some kind of Scareware (where the malware authors infect your computer and then try to scare you into buying their useless garbage).

Then run a combo of AVG Anti Virus and Lavasoft Ad-Aware (both can be got free) and that should kill the trojan.

Run HijackThis and post the log here. Spyware scanners won't do much against the trojan you have.
