Hey everybody, im just wondering is there anyway you can be tested for STD`s immediately as opposed to waiting the 5 weeks or so? I wouldnt even mind having to pay because I am quite anxious to get seen! Thanks

you can attend any of the walk in clinics in St. James's or the Mater - the first 30 are seen by doctor and the rest by nurses - to make sure nobody has something very urgent needing treatment.

They have them usually 3 times a week, but I can't remember off hand the days.

The Well in Sandyford do a full STD screen for approx €300. 01-2945444
Expensive but if you want to be seen quickly and are willing to pay its an option

    :-O
Most GP's can do a full STI screen including testing for HIV, considering it just involves taking swaps and urine samples and i'm sure it costs a lot less than 300 quid!

You might want to try here in Smithfiled on the LUAS. Smithfield Community Clinic in Charter Medical has walk - in open 7 days a week, 8am to 8pm during week and 10am to 8pm weekends.

As a previous poster mentioned, there is a walk-in clinic in St.James's Hospital. Look up www.guide2guide.ie to find out all their details eg clinic times, which area the hospital is in etc. Just a practical point- it really is first come/first served so you would need to turn up at 7.30am for a 9am clinic to make sure you are seen. This sounds inconvenient, but it is a very good "one-stop-shop" service. Confidentiality is a priority so they won't write to your GP unless you want them to. The GUIDE clinic chart is also kept separate to the normal St.James's charts in case you are worried about subsequently attending St.James's A+E.
By the way it is free for medical card and private patients as it is a public clinic.
Most GPs should be able to offer the service as others have said. If your GP doesn't do blood tests in the surgery, you would be sent to the free blood test clinic in your local hospital. Results for blood and swab tests usually take about two weeks to come back from the virus reference lab in UCD.

You might bear in mind. If you go for a medical for insurance, your doctor is obliged to report that you have been tested for HIV (yes this is on many of the forms) provided they are aware of it. I would probably use a different GP to my regular one if I was you.

Always wondered about this, what implications does it have? Will insurance skyrocket? Can they refuse you? Do GPs routinely inform patients of this before doing HIV tests?

Can't speak from experience but they are hardly going to give you cheaper insurance... so I would surmise that it will cause at least an increase in your premium (no idea how much) or they could possibly refuse you.

    Not to my knowledge.
