    Has anyone used the free program by Gibson Research called ShieldsUP!? It's intended to assess port vulnerabilities, as well as Windows file sharing via NetBIOS. Does it really work as claimed? Gibson Research Link.

    If you're looking for more comprehensive vulnerability testing, there's two free alternatives,

    STD Linux http://www.s-t-d.org
    and Backtrack which is a version of the SLAX linux live disk.

    The test on the website is really just a scan of open ports. They seem to be claiming it is some revolutionary scanner which is a load of rubbish
