DJ problems

Anyone else listening to Liveline today hear that poor couple whose wedding day was almost ruined when the dj never showed, and that was the only music they had booked?

It really struck a chord with me because I think we were lucky the same thing didn't happen to us with our dj, and a lot of the story sounded the same. They booked a dj at a wedding fair, and were most defintely given the impression on the day that the dj they booked on the day would be the guy showing up for their wedding. But when the wedding day rolled around, it turned out that the name used by the dj is actually a company name and you can expect to have one of a "host of professional djs" show up instead.

The morning of my wedding, I got a phone call from a guy saying that he was going to be my dj that night, but he wasn't happy with the price I had agreed with the guy at the wedding fair, and he wanted more money. I was sitting there having hair and makeup done at the time.

Anyway, I got my then fiance, now husband :p, to phone the original number that we had for the dj and find out what was going on. The original dj confirmed that he would not in fact be "doing the gig" that night for us, but that someone else would. He went on to claim that the guy harrassing me for more money was not the same person who would be dj-ing for us that night.

In the end I had two or three more phonecalls from the same guy looking for more money, until I finally agreed to give him a whole 25 extra, and that night, someone did show up and dj for us, and we were never really sure if it was the guy on the phone or not. But we paid the original amount instead of the amount we had been threatened into that morning, and he never said anything.

Listening the that couple on Liveline today really made me wonder how many other wedding djs at those wedding fairs are in fact fronts for "companies of djs", and I am also wondering if anyone else had the same experience we did of receiving a phonecall the morning of the wedding threatening that they wouldn't show up unless you paid more?

Hi aniascor, sorry to hear about your recent trouble, and happy you got it sorted. I run my own DJ business and as it is only me, you always get me doing your event. I was thinking of doing a wedding fair next year, but after this looks like it might not be such a good idea. Or maybe as I said I might be able to get more work if I tell people it is only me!

I always confirm a price, send terms & conditions, and allow my guests to make up a playlist, also I guarentee to play the songs on the list - if not I refund your money! I have heard so many horror stories where people deal with many different people for thier event then are surprised when someone they have never heard/met arrives.

Best wishes for you & your husbands future, and may your house be always full of happiness & your hearts full of love.
