Has anyone watched this movie? Saw it yesterday and I must say it is, for me a candidate for the best film on 2007, the visuals were stunning, every important character in the movie had their fair share of screen time and the cast itself was fantastic! Only gripe was the ending, I haven't read the book, but the movie ending was a bit too
    lovey dovey for my liking

Yeah, I saw this a week or so ago (whenever it came out) and enjoyed it, I agree about the ending.
    De Nero is hysterical.
Gervais is not on screen enough.
Could have been 20 mins shorter (unless that time was given to Gervais)

My experience was ruined by some stupid woman who decided to bring her newborn baby to the film and it cried for about 30 mins

Enjoyable movie. Some great characters, but the two main leads were terrible actors.
    Still enjoyed the movie.
    Worth watching.

Very enjoyable film, I've been recommending it to everyone ever since.

Loved it. I didn't think the leads were too bad. I think it was their naivety that endeared me to them.

I liked the ending. The main theme was love after all. I was expecting it, but I also wanted it.

Worth seeing just for DeNiro's performance. (and Claire Danes... >_>)

I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed it. However, there was a bit too much CGI for my liking.

Tbh I though he was the only bad thing about the movie!

Didnt think much of this film to be honest.
I had read the comparisons to Labyrinth but its a pale imitation of that masterpiece.
As for De Niro,he is a sad shell of the actor he used to be,he hasnt had a decent role in years.

    I don't hate everything. :(

Why do you say things you know will hurt me?

Great review Karl. Says everything I felt about the film.

I don't think that's a fair statement at all. If one was to compare it to anything, it should be The Princess Bride, as it doesn't really have much in common with Labyrinth, certainly not anywhere near being a "Pale imitation" of it.

Saw it last Saturday and fell in love with it. I left the cinema with a giant smile plastered across my face. I recommended it to a number of friends who would traditionally avoid fantasy films like the aids virus and they all enjoyed it.

I plan on watching it again over the weekend and I can see it becoming one of those childhood classics.

Fair enough but I dont think it could compare to the Princess Bride either.

I liked it a lot. After long time just a movie to entertain, with lots of jokes (especial the falling boobs...).
It was too sweet, but it is a fairytale. So far one of the best movies this year.

I also liked it a lot - so double film mod recommendation! That means you all have to like it!
It's just a story that really gets the concept of fairy tale without having to introduce the Shrek-like elements of post-modernism. It's sweet, funny, and generally well realised and compares very well to the likes of "The Princess Bride" or "Labyrinth". It's a long time since I came out of a movie that was just the right amount of nice. One of the films of the year.

I saw this on Saturday night, and wasn't expecting too much to be honest. I admit I really liked it. A fab cast, with people I didn't expect in it. Definite thumbs up!!:D
