Was talking to a gang of mates the other day about books we read as kids and i was trying to describe a book i hate that allowed you to choose how the story worked out eg
Take left path turn to page 89
Take right paths turn to page 46

Nobody believed me... and they all think i dreamt it

Does anybody remember them? think one of the ones i had was based on Alice in Wonderland??!!??
    :confused::confused:

Well, there were certainly D&D versions.

They are called Role Playing Books.

Oh I think the name of the guy who invented them was Jackson... I will have to investigate further.

There were a few different types of those alright, there were some by Steve Jackson that were more violent and full of beasties, then there were some that were more humerous and aimed at kids. I actually have the collection of Steve Jacksons 4 first books at home, I found them the other day. I'll take a picture of them and put it up later if you want so that can you can revel in your correctness with your mates.

Be honest, when you chose to "walk down the dark corridor into the light" did you keep one finger on the original page so that if it all went pear shaped, you could just go back and pick the other option? I didnt. *Ahem*

Most time I didnt use a dice. I just used presumed magic power to win the battles. In fairness, I didnt play for that part, I just loved the novelty of the books, and finding out what WAS at the end of that corridor.....

A hand reaches out of the darkness and grabs your upper arm. Do you...

.....send it to the thunderdome and hurl abuse at it?
.....send it to AH and laugh at it?
.....send it to Paranormal, for fairly obvious reasons or,
.....send it to legal discussions and place a lawsuit for harrasment?

    :D:D

The series was called "Choose Your Own Adventure" by Bantam books

The one yout had was possibly "Alice's Wonderland Adventure" which came from a Walt Disney set.

Seconded - I immediately thought of this series when I saw your first post. Unlike the "Fighting Fantasy"/"Lone Wolf" or other series, this one didn't involve you rolling any dice. You just made the choice and moved on.
What age are your friends to think you made it up? Didn't everyone play these.. or just my little closed world of friends? :o

I had a Sonic the Hedghog one. Was great, and you rolled dice to fight Robotnik. "Roll 2, punch in the crotch", that kind of stuff.
The Goosebumps series had books like that too, choose your own scary adventure. Man, those books were cool..
