Cheapest Applecare

My parents are gone to New York and I asked them to pick up Applecare for my Macbook there as there's €130-odd euro in the difference. Unfortunately the store refused to sell it to them as they don't have a US address.

I've seen it for sale on ebay for €160 or so and I've heard from other people on Boards who've had success buying Applecare on Ebay. Anyone here ever done this? Applecare for €160 seems a bit too good to be true.

At the end of the day, I'd buy from Apple if Ebay is too big a risk... However, I'm not a cheap person, and I understand that things in the US will always be cheaper, but I can't help feel sickened at the thought of paying €319/$460 when the EXACT same product can be bought for €173/$250 elsewhere- that's a ridiculously huge difference.

So basically what I'm wondering is, has anyone bought Applecare from somewhere other than Apple itself, and did it work out alright?

Sorry if this would have been more appropriate in Bargain Alerts, but I thought I'd have more luck at getting relevant answers here.

Bought from ebay and it was GBP £100. First time i went to get the machine looked at the guy told me that the applecare wasn't valid...didn't show up no the system. So i came on here and someone advised me it should work and to check the serial number i used to register it. I had put a 5 in for an S. Called applecare and had them switch it. I've since been back to Apple store and the guy said its set up and my cover is up till 2009

in short, they may not sell from apple store in US but resellers may sell it. And ebay is fairly safe if you have a decent reseller.
