I think you have to have HCAP test done now for coillte lands if you are a new permit holder

I think its the new sport where you tie a deer to a stake and then sneak up on him:D

nobody answered your qustion about cabire 243 is a great allrounder and shoots quite flat out to 300 yards depending on how set it up .......i shoot 243 when stalking but also have a 6.5 55 and 308 blazer i use for targets its a lump and think 65 55 would be a great deer rifle as it shoots 100 grain to 165 grain bullets (i think) but i hear that there's a new calibre out a 25 06 and this sapossed to be the future in stalking ??? hmm

coillte permets come out june or so if you go on there site you will get a better idea, as for gun anything from 243 up i shoot 6.5-55 i find it very good gun,if you cant get coillte letting you will have ask some farmers can you shoot there land then you get on to national parks and wildlife for deer licence witch is also on there site after that pick out gun and go to the cops for licence it all takes about 3 months, and you should be ready for september 08 hope this helps.

Just as a point of interest, the 25-06 has been around as a wildcat since the 1920s, and was standardised by Remington in 1969; hardly 'new.'

If using the .243, from past experince, i have found the 80 grain hallow points far more humane. As the 100 grain soft points, most of the time just pass threw without expanding!!
The best caliber i have shot for all deer in Ireland, is the, 6.5 x 55.

When you get your permit sorted ect, remember, respect for the deer your shooting, goes a LONG way.

    Happy hunting.

    Keelan.
