Laptop taken after dropping two students into town

I was on my way home last night after working late about 11.15pm. I was stopped at the traffic lights facing south on the Newcastle Road Upper waiting to turn left onto the Quincentennial Bridge.

While waiting at the lights two students hopped into the back of the car. I told them I wasn't a taxi driver but they asked me to drop them into town anyway. Although I wouldn't usually do this I obliged as I only live 2 minutes from town.

I dropped them by the Woodquay area and headed home. When I got home I discovered my laptop had been taken from the back seat - I had completely forgotten my laptop was in the back when they hopped into the car in the first place.

If anyone has any information on who these people might be I would greatly appreciate it. It was a guy and a girl both about 20 years old I would say. The guy was wearing a white sheet wrapped around him and over one shoulder to look like a Roman toga type thing. The girl had a long enough dress on.

I'm not looking to press charges or anything like that - I just need my laptop back as there is a lot of important information on it. Maybe it could be dropped into the NUIG lost and found. I presume there is one in the students centre.

    Thanks

    That is deplorable behaviour.

I'm delighted to say that the laptop has been anonymously left into the SU.

A big thanks to whoever it was that gave it in.

    lolwhat?

OP, did I read correctly that they just opened the door of your car and got in? ****ing scumbags imo.
Glad to hear you got it back.

They got in initially thinking I was a taxi. I think it is possible they innocently just took everything from the back seat as they were getting out. They could also just have thought it would be a laugh to take it.

To be fair they were not the kind of people I would call scumbags. All I care about now is that it was given back.

    Were they a bit hammered?

    Wan honesty and all that.

Sounds like they helped themselves to your laptop in the moment and then woke up this morning with a twinge of guilt.

Wow... I think I know who one of them was and he's a very good friend of mine. He's also one of the soundest people I know and I'd be shocked if it was him.

Well I might be wrong. He was the only guy I saw wearing a toga, and at one point he had to run back to Corrib Village to get his phone and he did say that he got in a taxi on the way back but didn't have any money and the driver gave him a free lift into town. Maybe it wasn't him, because he would have said if he got a lift off a randomer, unless he was so twisted he thought you were a cabbie?
Also, when in town he didn't have a laptop (pretty hard to carry around when you're on the beer) so either it was the other person in your car, or it wasn't anything to do with my friend at all!

Glad to hear you got it back, having expensive stuff stolen is sickening

Good you got it back. They were probably just a bit drunk and took it.
