Gas Boiler - Water Pressure Guage

I have a HeatLine gas boiler. I think it's this one.......

    http://www.heatline.co.uk/productviewer.php?sectionid=1&pid=5

The pressure guage fell into the red zone (i.e. under 1) and it's supposed to be between 1 and 2. So, as I did the last time, I opened the blue valve (Really stupid and fiddly. It doesn't unscrew like a tap would. You have to unscrew it and then use a pliers to release it, since the blue knob doesn't turn. At least I can't see how it does.)

Anyway, the reading has now risen above 2 and seems to want to keep rising - though VERY slowly. Yet, I am sure that I've retightened the valve.

Should I be worried? The red zone the other way is above 5, so it has a bit to go yet.

    Thanks.

    D.

ps. Would be nice if HeatLine made a user manual PDF available for download.

If it's the filler valve that you opened, then it sounds like it's not closing properly. I'm assuming that the boiler was off while you opened the valve as the pressure will rise as the system heats.

    Thanks for replying.

No, the boiler was on when I opened the valve.

The upper red zone starts at 3, not 5 as I wrote below, and the guage is now at 2.5. But, it has taken over two hours to get there.

The valve won't fully tighten, as it did before (why don't they put a normal tap handle on these valves so that you can open them easily?) so maybe it's damaged?

Should I turn off the heating?

For future reference, should I refill the system only with the boiler turned off?

    Many thanks.

    D.
