Leagues O'Toole announced on Phantom 105.2 last night that Foggy Notions are bringing Final Fantasy back in the next month or two. Sorry but I can't remember date or venue!

I missed him at the Picnic but I won't be missing this one!

I'll update with details as soon as I find them!

    OMG!
Will definitely be there, he was the best act at the Picnic imo.
Just doing a quick look on his myspace and he's playing in America until the 20th of november, so hopefully he'll be over before christmas.

I heard it from the promoter’s mouth...as far as I know press release was coming out today. So should be something around tomorrow. But rest assured it's true.

Coola boola, great venue for him!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

I would have been interested, only it's on the same night as High on Fire/Pelican and A Hack and a Hacksaw... :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

Hawk and Hacksaw arent really that good but its unfortunate about the Pelican clash but, having seen both, Final Fantasy will get my repeat custom.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,326 ✭✭✭Zapp Brannigan

Just a heads up. Tix are on sale tomorrow!

Aye, I bought my Pelican ticket as soon as they came on sale, wouldnt mind catching Owen Pallett again though. Sticking with Pelican after the performance at Primavera this year!

Tickets have been on sale since last wednesday from Wav ticket box on 1890 200078. Its also cheaper if you buy them from Wav and more money goes to the promoter rather than ticketmaster so everyone wins (you, the promoter, society).

Got my ticket, looking forward to this now! But am I the only one who'd prefer a table gig?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

If by that you mean that it will be four seats and a table Im pretty sure thats what its going to be.

The tickets say Ground, Unreserved. Usually when theres tables it gives you a table number.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,326 ✭✭✭Zapp Brannigan

Yeah its standing. Still I was standing at the picnic and there was a cool vibe so it'll be good in Vicar St aswell.

    Got mine at last! Phew!

Thanks for the heads up guys. Just got my tickets there. I wouldn't be as big a fan as some of you guys, but I do like him a lot, and I have heard from numerous reliable sources that he is the best live act around.

Get to see for myself now :)

He was great at EP would love to see him again

Mwahahaha, I'm gonna sit right next to you and talk during all the songs but the popular ones*

*if these such people show up I will kill them

A Hawk and a Hacksaw confirmed as support; they've cancelled their afformented Crawdaddy gig on the same night.

Tempting now... so it's either this or High on Fire/Pelican...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

Miracle Fortress are still playing... Was worried they got bumped for Hawk and a Hacksaw. The addition is a nice bonus I guess though Im not sold on their recorded stuff which sounds like a poor mans Beirut.

If they don't arrive they cancel them and issue you new ones which you collect using the credit card you booked the originals on. So no panic really!

Actually getting quite hyped about this. Haven't been to a good gig in quite a few months, so hopefully this'll be a decent one.

Just out of curiosity for those who have seen the man before, what kind of backing band (if any) does he tend to travel with?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,326 ✭✭✭Zapp Brannigan

No backing band. It's just him and a loop pedal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,181 ✭✭✭✭Jim

The best thing about him tbh.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 11,382 Mod ✭✭✭✭lordgoat

    sometimes a string quartet!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

He hasnt played with the string quartet in quite sometime and apparently he was unhappy with them so is unlikely to ever use one again.

Occasionaly his boyfriend drums with him but hes really loud and unsubtle and usually subtracts from the performance so hopefully he wont show. Also occasionaly he has a projectionist who will use an overhead projector and acetate to make on the fly visualisations. Shes pretty fun to watch so I hope shes at this show.

However its most likely it will just be him at this date seeing as its a one off appearance that himself and Foggy Notions were able to arrange.

Have you heard the butcher yet? I think it's a relatively new song... trés good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

Ive heard it but it doesnt come to mind. Ive quite a few bootlegs with several new songs on them. His cover of Paris 1919 keeps getting stuck in my head.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 11,382 Mod ✭✭✭✭lordgoat

See ye all there. No thanks to ticketmaster. I hate them.

Wow. Pretty terrific gig. Didn't know if it would live up to the hype - my cousin actually said he wept last time he saw it. While I didn't break down in tears at any points, I was engrossed throughout. Really fascinating what one musician can do when he puts his mind to it. Kinda destroyed my anti-memory pedal bias as well, which believe me was quite strong up until this evening.

Highlights: the usual greats (This Lamb Sells Condos the natural highlight, because I adore that song) were actually often surpassed by the freshness of the new songs and covers. Thought the second encore Bloc Party cover in particular was first rate. Glad he played Cliqout too, as Im a Beirut fan as well.

And surprise of the night to Miracle Fortress. Id heard them on Myspace and liked them, but they were superb live (especially the double percussion). Picked up the CD and looking foward to giving it a listen!
