What's the story with the SU website? Wasn't there some kind of hoo-ha last year because they spent oodles of money buying new domain names and having it professionally designed (I'm sure I remember bitching about that at some point...tbh it all kinda blends together after a while) and all that jazz? And now it's just kinda sitting there - the photo is new and there's one piece from the new Record article, but the poll is still about a banned event, the ENTS calender is still 06/07, half the contact details are out of date, the class reps list is a year old and the message boards have been down for at least a month that I've noticed. Like, wtf? And I'm not just trying to bitch or stir it for the sake of it - I went looking for actual information (re: class reps) and was kinda shocked to find it so out of date and unused.

The website last year broke even with ads as far as I was aware. Claire Tighe has assured me that she's working on it but there hasn't been much progress since she started.

From what i hear there is a new website being designed and built. Bit of a waste of money if u ask me as the last one is less than a year old.

The new website has been designed and built on Joomla!, which is a free open-source Content Management System. The problem lies with the hosting as there were some issues with that. Ah College committees. It's nearly ready to roll though. Basically, it's not just an update. It's an entirely new structure (that's free) with loads of new bells and whistles (also free). The old site was rather cumbersome to update, trust me. So cumbersome. Another advantage of the new system is that there will be tiered levels of access meaning that not just Sabbats will be able to post to the site. This should it make it much more active (though Claire will still be the ultimate moderator).

As for Class Reps, the list was finalised last week and I have to give people an opportunity to withdraw their consent to have their details published. There are also vacant positions being filled. It'll be released simultaneously on the website and in the next issue of The University Record. The other content is actually proving an issue to update. We've also carried out a significant updating of the technology we use (we now have data backup!).

To sum up, the old system is being replaced (by a relatively cheap one - small design cost and tiny hosting fee) and we're moving the hosting but we weren't given the opportunity to do all this until last week (Ah College committees). Claire has been putting a lot of work into getting it done, it's just been behind the scenes. We hope to have it ready for the second issue of the University Record. Wait until you see it. I've seen the test version and you would have its children. Who would also be free.

Could someone make sure that the Joomla! icon is changed (the one beside the address)? It's present in the Record website so I assume that it'll be on this one too. Just annoys me deeply.

Of course, because satisfying the personal idiosyncracies of a graduand is what keeps me going :p
