    Hi all,

Just wondering has anyone had any good experiences with hotels of this kind.. or with these facilities.

I'm looking to head away for a weekend soon for some complete chillaxation and these are the must haves!

Open fires with armchairs to relax in..
    Free wireless broadband
    Good food in the bar/restaurant
Grounds of some sort to wander in or else close enough to a nice town.

Other than that, a bed of some sort would be nice!!

Hopefully this might dredge up some good ideas or suggestions from people who've found that little gem of a hotel Im after.

I stayed in Farnham Estate earlier this year. Can't say for certain there were open fires, but it has everything else you are looking for, plus the health spa.

The underground cellar bar has to be seen to be believed. As it's name implies, it is in the old cellar, but in each of the nooks and crannies, they have couches with loads of cushions. :) Myself and herself utterly loved it when we were there. Despite the odd bad review on Trip Advisor, we found the food in the restaurant to be of a fairly high standard.

    It ain't cheap, though.

We spend last weekend in the K Club... cheap it is not, but it ticks all the boxes for your requirements, but at a cost. Nearby is Carton House, which is a 4* equivalent worth looking at.

Well until us overworked and underpaid teachers get the 45% payrise I'm after, I wont be going to the K-Club!!! :p

    :D

Anything closer to the southern half of Ireland??

If you want relaxation and like the sea, http://www.aranview.com/

I loved this place last summer, not very modern but not falling apart-very old world country hotel, fantastic views of the Aran Islands/Galway bay and walking distance to the cliffs of moher, trad music sessions and the Doolin boat to the islands. Good food and clean rooms. Close to Lisdonvarna and Ennis for nightlife or has a lively old hotel bar.

Not sure about the wireless bb though :)

The Maryborough House Hotel in Cork is great .... bit on the pricey side but the food in the restaurant is great. They have openfires, but can't confirm the broadband ... they have it in the rooms anyway.
