    Not sure how significant peak oil is in the near term, however 5-10 years post peak would start to change day to day living.

    They were reporting European research. However the organisation in question appears to lean a little to the left.

    I think most research expects peak oil some time between 2010 & 2050. So it's coming soon. It's just a matter of when.

    Here is another interview discussing the same report. I think one of the problems here is that the EIA/IEA is not going to ring a bell and say that’s it we have passed peak oil. There will probably be a 5 year period where there will be utter confusion over the issue. It’s a pity really because a good understanding of PO would frame the global warming debate nicely, I bet a lot of GW analysis shows oil consumption rising until 2030, if this assumption is wrong then the actions derived will not be optimal
    From a transitional point of view getting the timeframe right is important. The consequences are more severe for society if it fails to plan for this and only acts after the event.
