I'm looking to get a phone that will play nice with OSX. Esp. iCal and contacts. But the iPhone is not for me, I've always found nokia to have a clean UI, so would lean that way. But I'm not sure about the "N" series – too much for my needs. I'm looking for something that'll sync to my mac over USB (I've no bluetooth).

I have a Blackberry 8800, and use mark/space software to sync between it and OSX with no problems.

In the past I've had Nokia and Sony Ericsson models and both play nice with iSync. It's also possible to send SMS using Address Book and Bluetooth. The models I used are:

    SE K610i
    SE K630i
    SE K750i
    SE V800i
    SE W800i
    Nokia 6310i
    Nokia 3620
    Nokia N73

All the above use bluetooth and with a usb bluetooth dongle only costing about 20 quid it would be silly to deny yourself the ease of use it offers as not all phones come with a USB cable. OSX has built in support for Bluetooth and with most dongles adhering to the standard, no drivers are required - it's just plug it in and go !

With some very new phones it can be necessary to edit a small text file to get the SMS feature to work but it's easy to do - and we are always willing to help here.

I have an E60 and it works fairly well. Nokia released a plugin for iSync to make it work.

There should be no problem with USB dongles.

What Mac do you have that has no BT tho?

IIRC I didn't need any drivers at all. Just paired the phone and it worked. It's been a couple of years since I've used it but I think I did have problems getting it to work initially but some searching gave a solution. I think there's a new version of the 6310i out at the moment though, the O2 shop on the street in the airport had one in stock SIM free a month or so ago so it's possible I suppose that there's been a software update to the phone.

Two Sony Ericsson later and I can say they are really easy with OS X

5 mins tops finding the iSync profile. It's not a driver as such but more an xml file which defines how iSync should talk to your phone.

Changed phone only 3 weeks ago. Boom, sync'd in no time.
