Meeting people in Trinity

    Hi all

I'm just starting an M.Sc course and I'm wondering what the best way to meet new people in Trinity is. Im a member of the phil, hist, investors, netsoc and compsci-soc, and I have made friends in my course. However, the flipside of that is I haven't made any friends outside my course! They are ludicrously hard to get out, I organised beers for my birthday last friday in the pav and only two of them out of 20 turned up!

Trinity is (in)famous for the vibrancy of it's social life and as I'm only here for a year (at this point) I want to take full advantage of what's on offer. Should I just go to society meetings more, or am I looking in the wrong places altogether?

    Go to society meetings more.

So far I've made friends from my course, the Hist and the Basketball team and I've met other random people through friends I know already who are in different courses.

Just get involved in stuff and don't be shy about introducing yourself to people when at society meetings/events. It's not really that hard to make friends with a small bit of effort.

Maybe join a smaller society? You'd get to know people better in there. Provided they're not cliquey anyway.

I know what you mean. I'm a JF, and although I have made a few friends in my year, most of them are in cliques.

I haven't gone to any soc meetings yet. I guess I'll go to a Hist and Phil one soon, and maybe join another soc.

Going out and meeting people is tough since I'm skint anyway:D

You don't need money to meet people... The Hist and the Phil have debates and guest speakers in weekly and there's usually a reception with some free beer/food afterwards. Other societies like Sci Fi Soc and Comp Sci Soc seem to have film screenings and guest speakers in fairly frequently and there's plenty more going on with other societies that doesn't cost anything.
