Connecting PACE NTL Box to Sony HDD Recorder

I just bought a Sony RDR-HX950B DVD/HDD-Recorder and am trying to connect it up with my PACE NTL box and a Sony Bravia TV.
I've got the basic digital service from NTL.

I've followed the instructions that came with the recorder but to no avail.
All I can get is the basic NTL channels but none of the NTL digital ones.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to correct this.

    Thanks

I hope you're not under the impression that you can somehow tune your HDD recorder to receive ntl: digital channels are you? If so, you'll be sorely disappointed .. the only thing that can receive digital cable stations is a cable box. The Sony may have a DTT receiver but thats no good for ntl: I'm afraid.

All you can do is to connect the SCART output of the Pace box to the SCART input of the HDD Recorder and record something that you're actually watching at the time by telling the HDD recorder to record the contents of the SCART input.

If you want to be able to record one ntl: digital channel while watching another you'll have to get the DVR from ntl: (or UPC as they're now known).

    Thanks for the reply Alun.
It sounds a bit depressing considering the money one of these things cost. I should've researched it better.
Anyway there's a device that comes with the HDD recorder called a 'set top box controller'. This works with GUIDE Plus+. The instructions say this works in the UK only so I'm guessing that means it doesn't work here. Has anyone got this to work.

Plain fact is Idon't have much knowledge about this stuff that's why I'm on here.

There's another recent thread on here about setting up GuidePlus+ to work here. See http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=54315109#post54315109. I've no experience with it myself mind you.

What is this 'set top box controller'? Is it a separate box? How does it interface with the set top box? There are devices around, mainly I think for controlling certain set top bioxes via infrared from Media Center PC's, but I'd be a bit dubious about something generic like that that claimed to work with every set top box in circulation to be honest. Do they give any more detail about how it (supposedly) works?
