Whats the general consensus on this one? I went out last night and had 1 to many, OK Ok 2 too many, :o and had to be up for work this morn at 7.30am.. I'm feeling pretty hungover.

Was meant to go the Gym this eve and was just wondering should you ever train hungover and if so is it better do some cardio or lifting?

    Any thoughts?

If you do decide to do exericise this evening, get a few pints of water down you during the day, also some salt in some shape or form to help you absorb the water

Yeah just suck it up, you'll sleep better! I know guys who come in from working all night as bouncers or doctors or who've been sick and got feck all sleep (though admittedly without the hangover) that still put in a good session even if they might be weaker than normal.

Definitely make sure you're well fed and watered though.

Yeah I agree with Trib to be honest. If you want whatever goal you have badly enough then you'll be prepared to push thru the minor things like a hangover to get there.

i agree after a hang over but lack of sleep is a different thing as it kinda pointless sleep is an important factor in muscle buildin as it is onli durin deep sleep do u produce hormones essential for growth and repair which is crucial for muscle buildin
but yea trainin thru hangover might make ya drink less wen ya see how horrible it can be haha i said mite::p

Yeeaaahhhh... I know one or two guys who might disagree with that. Well no doubt they'd agree on principal. But they're doing ok regardless.

Life isn't perfect, you just have to make do with what you can.

Don't agree with that, yes sleep is important but you won't get results if you don't train. Obviously if you're constantly lacking sleep on a regular basis its going to be tougher to reach you're goals but in that situation I think building muscle is the least of your problems.

I did Train, And it was horrible!! But I think the memories of the horribleness will fade over time and I'll be back trainin in the same state again in the future  I definitely did feel better after it though and its just one of those things, like Hanley said If ya want something bad enough and all that..........

I cycle to workoff a hangover. I would not like doing weights, too dangerous, and I would not be able to lift much anyways. Water is very important at night. I would equate a litre of water with an hours sleep up to a point. e.g. if I got in at 12 and was up at 7.30, I would be better off staying up until 1am if it meant I could get another litre of water down me. Also get some food in the stomach too. And drink quality alcohol in the first place to reduce the hangover in the first place, i.e. good rum or vodka.

I also used to fish down pints and drink water later on when heading out. i.e. hit the pub at 9, horse down pints until 10.30, then drink nothing but water till 12. I used to wake up fine doing that, and would not sober up during the night, just beginning to sober up as I hit the bed.

The "last order" and "rounds" culture is the biggest cause of hangovers IMHO

I have to say I don't see the point of this. Why not drink slowly all night, or drink slowly until 10.30. Horsing pint until a certain point then abstaining seems to counter the point of going out IMO.

There are a few reasons. First off I will say I enjoy getting to a certain level of drunkeness/tipsiness and being in a merry mood, and I think most will admit that to themselves- though some will claim they only like the taste, or only go to the pub to socialise.

It is estimated that your body can process 1 pint per hour, so 1 pint goes "to waste" blood alcohol level wise (you might enjoy the taste- that is another story), it also takes time for a pint to fully affect you, I would personally estimate an hour for myself, and will keep it at that for simplicity of math. Say I go to the pub at 9, and leave at 12- 3 hours drinking time. I am going to drink 6 pints. If I was to drink 1 pint every half hour I would have 6 over the 3 hours. By 10 I have 2 pints down, one of which "went to waste" via the liver. By 11 I have 4 pints down, 2 gone to waste, 2 in my system. By 12 I have 6pints in, 3 gone to waste, and 3 in my system- the last one still waiting to take full effect.

Now if I only drink from 9-11 I am downing 3 per hour. so by 10 I have 3 pints- 2pints in my system and 1 gone to waste. So after 1 hour I should be in around the "same state" as I would have been by 11 drinking slowly. By 11 I have 6 pints in, 4 taking effect and 2 gone to waste in the liver. These pints are all still taking effect and tailing off by 12. But it allows me to lash down water all that hour and rehydrate myself.

By drinking quickly it increases absorption and increases the blood alcohol level, so really you can get away with drinking less overall for the same effect. So your intake of calories is reduced, and overall you are ingesting less toxins so should expect the hangover to be less.
Horsing pint until a certain point then abstaining seems to counter the point of going out IMO.
That is fair enough, it might suit you better. I am not forcing pints down really, I like to drink at a fast pace, and I am not sitting around doing nothing the rest of the night, I am drinking pints of blackcurrant or water. At the same time I see people in the last order culture, getting in treble whiskies and lashing them down, when the booze is not even going to affect them until they hit the bed.

Rounds are the killer. Its very hard to take a back seat and start drinking water if your mates are going on at the same pace. But it definitely does sound like the best way to go out have some drunken banter and still be able to function the next morning. I will definitely be trying it out on my next excursion to the local..
