Classic kids film, and I must've watched it about 50 odd times when I was a young nipper. It's just a great adventure film, and very enjoyable.

I'm in the same boat as you KH, sister and her army of 5 hyperactive kids were recently visiting, and I bought a copy. They were mesmerised for the whole weekend and watched it several times, and I must admit, so did I. A fantastic rip roarer of an adventure movie, mild peril, and all round feel good factor. They should make more movies like this!

one of my all time favourites, can still watch it now and get so much enjoyment out of it. Will definitely be one to show the kids someday.

Got this on DVD. HOPED to God that my memory of the film wasn't rose tinted. It wasn't. Still a very funny film. Kids films the last couple of years are so tame and unoffensive that they've lost the edge. I know that's the current US climate that's driving that but just watch what the kids get up to in the film and the language out of them. When was the last time you saw a kids film with that many "sh1t"s in them. Also, watched it with my 13 year old nephew to see what he thought. LOVED it too. An absolute CLASSIC.

Counting the posts to see who'll be the first to start with "Heyyyyyyy youuuuuuu guyyyyssssss!!!!!"

I don't have it on DVD, and I'm kinda apprehensive in the same way as TheIrishGrover was about my memory being rose tinted. It has been absolutely years since I've seen it.

saw it for the first time in years around 3 years ago on tv. You won't be disappointed, classics never lose their appeal.

You won't be disappointed KH. It's STILL a cracker. It had dated REMARKABLY well (ie. hardly at all). Plus, it's got Joe Pantoliano in it!!!!! About the only thing that dates it is seeing how young Sean Astin is in it

What can be said except that this is the most joyful adventure film Ive ever seen. It really is the kind of film that makes you nostalgic for those carefree days when everything was an adventure. The Goonies fulfil the grand old adventure dream all kids have, and for giving me that excited feeling everytime I watch it, it has to be applauded.

In fact, I appreciate the film much more now than I did as a kid, when my brother used to watch it daily. And on a watch a year or so ago I was suprised at how risque the humour at the very start was, when one of the Goonies (guy who looks like Harrison Ford) is talking to the Spanish housekeeper.

Wonderful, wonderful film that those who havent seen it in years should really revisit. Its as good as you remember.

Love it.. love it.. love it!

Absolutely classic film... still as fresh and funny now as it was back then - if just for Corey Feldman's one-liners.

Bought it on DVD a year or two back for the video commentary alone but mine was one of the DVD affected in a massive batch of them which didn't have the commentary.

Never sent it back.. regret it now! :(

Ah Great movie watched it loads of times when I was a kid, bought the special edition a couple of years ago and it had a commentary (done using a kind of picture in picture so u can see them doing the track)with all of the kids and Dick Donner its a good laugh to watch them all. You can pick it up cheap enought if u look around.

This and The Princess Bride, are easily the best kids films of all time.
I love it. I actually bought it on dvd last year and then my mate gave me a second copy as a christmas present, so instead of returning one, I take the other one with me in my bag for those rare occasions that a dvd may be needed.

Sadly John Matuszak who played Sloth passed away in 1989.

one of the funniest scenes is where Chunk knocks over the statue of David (I think) and the mother says "what is THAT?" Chunk:"oh shít, what?"

The scene with the statue of David is hilarious. My favourite bit is when Mikey realises the penis broke off and Mouth's response when he says "it's her favourite piece":
Chunk: [Data comes flying into the house knocking over everyone and Chunk grabs the statue of Michaelangelo's David] Hey! I bet you guys think I was going to drop it huh? But you wouldn't expect that from good ol Chunk
[Places the statue on the table and it falls off]
    Brandon Walsh: You Idiot!
    Mikey: Oh my god!
[runs over and picks up the statue]
Chunk: Look look! It's not broken. It's perfect! Ha ha!
Mikey: [sees that the statue's penis has broken off] Oh my GOD! That's my mom's most favorite piece!
[tries to put it back on]
    Chunk: Oh my god.
Mouth: You wouldn't be here if it wasn't.
    Mikey: Shut up Mouth!
    Brandon Walsh: Shut up Mouth.

I never really liked this...well that is to say I never got into it.
In ever gave it a chance.

In my family there was a distinct rivalry between this and the Burbs....I chose the Burbs everytime.

Well.. essentially yes, it's aimed at a younger audience.

But every once in a while, one of these will come along which appeals to both a young / old audience. And it appeals to me as a kid of "the eiggghties"! ;)

I rewatched this recently and its still excellent...maybe not quite as good as when I was a kid but thats to be expected.

Just saw this in IMC cinema Dun Laoghaire with a packed audience. Great fun altogether! They should totally show more classic films in the cinema these days, but it is looking like they are taking step towards it both in IMC and Cineworld.

never go up there. It's filled with Mr. Walsh's *sexual torture devices*.

You won't see lines like THAT in "kids" films anymore :)

You won't - one of the pleasures of the Goonies. It's hard 12s, and proud of it :D
