Playing 1st level and keep having to check that the WII is on and game running is coming from the WII

They offered me €30 and I told them where to shove it, you can join them tbh;)

MP3 was €50 in Smyths with 10% off thanks to the loyalty card, very happy with that price:)
Now all I need is to find the time to play the damn thing...

Don't be too disappointed lads, the first hour or so suck, as does some of the voice acting, you never really want Metroid to be about teams, its really a game about Samus in isolation, fighting the good fight.

Well I played it for a few hours last night and it's pretty damn good. I thought the opening battle was great even if it was a departure from the usual metroid gameplay. The controls and gameplay are very fluid and it feels quite similar to mouse/keyboard. The only problem I've encountered is when you aim too high on the screen and it sometimes sticks slightly. It's quite a nice looking game too. A big thumbs up from me so far!

Is there a law against bludgeoning flatmates to death with a Wiimote for watching crappy soaps when I want to get my Metroid on?
    Hopefully not...

    /edit
First impressions are pretty damn good, even though I was still fumbling with the controls when I got to the first boss (being slouched with my leg in front of the Wiimote didn't help much either...)
Really disliked the opening few minutes, but as soon as the station gets attacked the game starts to feel less like Halo and more like the MP we know and love.
I also like the idea behind credits, it adds an extra incentive to scanning enemies and stuff...

VERY tempted to have a quiet night in with a few beers and this game:o

is metroid corruption a console seller lads ?

    No, sadly.
Metroid, as a brand, means bugger all to folk outside of the Ninty fanbase, and its even a smaller section of that group.
Metroid Prime 3 Corruption simply won't stir up enough interest in gamers fresh to the Nintendo scene, people hankering for a bit of 1st person action have already gone for a 360 or a PS3. Pity, seeing as the Metroid Prime series has done more for the genre and introduced more innovations than Halo.
Most of the people owning a Wii or hankering after a Wii for Christmas are looking to get into the Wiisports phenomenon, the cool minigames with the physical interactivity thats so refreshing, a FPS that goes potholeing is not what they are signing up for, and more's the pity.
In fact it's arguable that the Wii edition of Tomb Raider Anniversary could be the app to sell the machine, given the good respose the series has gotten to the latest two releases, and it comes with a name that still means something to the casual gamer.

I'd love to see a compilation of Metroid Prime titles using the Wiimote controls, no need to reinvent the puzzles just get them out there so they have some hope of reaching the audience they always deserved.

Thats kinda pisses me off oh btw if you dont ahve a wii this and res evil 4 and worthy reasons to make you get one.

Halo gets 10/10 OMFG Msft marketted it better so it must be better, i rented out halo3 and got bored of the single player its ****e, i mean something that would be a tenner after 2 weeks on pc is the best xbox game ever?

Whereas Metroid is a near perfect game altho i hate the backtracking i have to do it cos i need to get something to get somewhere so not so much a chore but a means to an end. After i do a room i run tru them the next time.

You get green ones in return for grey ones if you send them to someone on your friend list and they send one back. You need green ones to buy most of the cool stuff, and as far as I know that's the only way to get them.
Think you get 1 grey one for every 100 kills.
Every name on my friends list was grey, but I sent one to you because i knew for sure that you had the game... looks like the system is kind of broken...

Hated the look of the new ship first time I saw it, but I've grown to really like it now! :D

Also I'm using a SD TV, and have to admit that unless you walk so your face is pressed against something, this looks almost as good as most of the 360 games I've played...

Plus it's a crime that this game is NOT a system seller. If more people knew how good the game was, it would be!

Halo 3 despite being only a better than average FPS gets numerous perfect 10 scores and sells millions. Metroid Prime 3, a fantastic game infinitely better than any halo and pushing the FPS genre forward with a unique control system and a classic skill system still ignored by every other FPS developer still manages to score less in reviews and only reaches a small minority of games. Just goes to show how unfair the world is.

I have had people say to me that this looks like the game that Halo tried to be.

    Complete xbox or PS heads

I find The Darkness much more enjoyable than Halo 3!

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,406 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I found the Darkness to be one of the worst games I have ever played. Nicely presented yes, but also a complete dog to play with a pathetic storyline. It still remains the only game I"ver ever traded in becuase I didn't like it (at least I got Sega Rally on the cheap, great game). Enjoyed Halo 3 a hell of a lot more and still enjoying it in multiplayer.

Such a pity Metroid Corruption wont be played by a much wider audience because its a sublime game. I try to stay away from bashing games or comparisons etc because it brings the fan boys out but this is an absolutely better game than Halo 3 and improves the genre more than any of the Halo games has done. Halo 3 is a very good game, but Metroid is on a whole another level IMO.

Aye, the first Metroid Prime sold relatively well considering how many Gamecubes there were out there, but still didn't reach the audience that it deserved.
I had hopes that with the sheer volume of Wiis out there, this game would outsell most of the other tripe that's currently on the shelves, but I have yet to see it on any sales charts on play.com or whatever.

Pfft! go ahead and buy Mysims instead if you want, see if I care!
    bunch of plebs!

I'm getting fairly close to the end of the game now, and the brilliance hasn't let up yet...
the boss battle with the shapeshifting bounty hunter was absolutely insane! I came so close to dying due to using too much hyper mode during the first few stages of the battle and having sweet FA health left for the final stage when she keeps her true form...

Which is why I used it for comparison.

I don't have xbox live (I refuse to pay for that) so I'm stuck with the single player Halo 3, and I personally think it's a polished turd...
As I said, The Darkness is pretty bad, but I at least enjoy using the darkness powers in it. The shooting elements are dire, the only things I shoot tend to be the lights.

I completed it tuesday with 89% and 13:55 on the game clock (so in total about 15/16 hours including deaths).

I think I have played most of the games in the Metroid series, and although this game is visually very impressive and the controls work pretty well, it just didn't do it for me.

Nintendo have once again played it safe and just rehashed an old game with some minor improvements, as they have with Zelda and Mario many times.

"Samus, you must upgrade your weapon!"
"Samus, you must get the missles!"
"Samus, you must get the morph ball upgrade!" etc etc. . .

Come on. Give me something new FFS. I had an awful feeling of deja vu playing this. Very disappointing game in my opinion.

Nintendo fanboys, you may now proceed with flaming me :)

Think I almost have that on the clock now, but I still have 1 power cell left to find* and only have 72% of the items.
I'd say mine would be more like 20-22 hours in total including deaths and restarts

    *
I don't think I even really need the last 2 power cells, as all they seem to do is unlock a worthless ship missile upgrade - as far as I can tell the secret message and pirate code is the main purpose of collecting them...

    Yeah that's right.
You only need 5, including the original one if I remember the layout correctly.

Started this last night... seems very good. Controls will take a bit of getting used to. Not crazy about lock-on - doesn't seem to work 100% of the time.

Weird thing happened on my first game. On the texty bit of the intro (Life Support Systems, blah blah, and the error text appears), alot of weird error text appeared for me, including some C code and german and french strings. I thought, wow, thats authentic looking (if not a little weird in a space shooter). After 20 seconds nothing happened. Then a message came up on screen that said "Your Nintendo Wii has encountered a serious issue. Please power off your Wii and consult your hardware manual."

Powered off, restarted and it worked fine.

Recently got a Wii (mainly to try and get the gf into games), first console I've had (unless you count the atari 2600).

Hearing a lot about Metroid Corruption, but would I need to have played the previous Metroid games first to get the best out of it?

I noticed that myself, sometimes you have to be right on top of them before you can get a target lock.

Also it takes for ever for some doors to open. not good if you are running for your life like

All the Metroid Primes do that - it's loading the next room in in the background. TBH I think it's nicer than some games where the game freezes every so often to load in more data - just seems that bit more polished...

Not too fond of the way that
you can get access to the locations of all the powerups in the chozo observatory in sky town... kind of feels like something that they put in there to make the game more accessible to Joe public along with the "normal" difficulty
Ah well, at least I'll be able to get the 100% ending first time around:p
