I'm playing on the 360 and its most certainly a Yay for me - barring the slowdown for replays.

Same here for the PS3, will take time to get used to it but really enjoyable

Have only played a couple of games but immediately it seems WAY quicker than the last pro Evo. Takes a bit of getting used to. I think I liked the slower pace to be honest. Seems a small bit too arcadey to me at the moment but it might grow on me.

So my immediate feeling is that I preferred the last version.

What is the password for the network play, I put in the regestration code but what is the password?

I'm playing with a PS3 on a regular tv. Even the entrance scene has a slow down. The game itself is about as smooth as a dirt road. I'll be buying myself the PS2 version in the morning.

    PC FTW!! :D

Once you go PC, you just never go back. I dunno how anyone could put up with those awful turfs konami use and everything else the online community can update simply blows every other format away IMO.
I heard some people buying a PS3 just for Pro Evo... they should have just bought a top line PC, or upgraded!
Ok, PC fanboy rant over :p
    Happy playing everybody!

No way could my laptop handle a new game like that. What sort of system are we looking at there to support it (graphics card and the whole lot)?

360 yay, apart from the frame rates on replays.

Sorry PC fans, completely forgot about the PC! Whenever I look at mine I see porn not pro evo... Played my first online there with the 360, its quite jumpy, the player and the ball just appear places randomly. One of the other guys players got stuck in the net for awhile as well, funny.... Here's hoping they can sort it out!

Does anyone know what the two green icons in the top middle of the screen are for? Me thinks Ping, but I was getting outrageous numbers, any idea?

Despite the above, I still yay it....

What country was that person you played from? That sounds like a shambles to me

why the hell does the ps2 version have 11 more stadiums than any of the other versions?

I dunno where he was from, he was Milan and I was United, I won 3-2 in the end. I tried to help get his player out of the net by passing the ball back to my keeper a few times, eventually Inzaghi realized he was acting the bollix and ran back onto the pitch, not before trying to rob my keeper of the ball, cheeky git...

i dont think its as cut and dry yay or nay to be honest

    its an alrite game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 888 ✭✭✭Kanney

This game is awesome, I dont know what all the bad press was about it. I've played only 5 games, granted. But the slowdown from replays? Thats the first view, an action motion view, press Y for a new view and it is smooth.
As far as the game goes, quicker, better... Loving it. But now I've six painful hours of work to endure before I have it all mine for the weekend.

Not really next-gen, but the core of it is still a yay.

Wheres the PES Shop (xbox360)?!?! Can't find it, and I'm beginning to think its not there...?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 864 ✭✭✭Aedh Baclamh

Kensutz - Did you play all three versions already? Good going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,053 ✭✭✭Cannibal Ox

Discovered there is no PES Shop, saw the editing mode and am ready to kick Seabass square in the balls. With iron tipped boots.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,326 ✭✭✭Zapp Brannigan

Same old same old. Was playing Master League and was deep into extra time, I was up 1 nil. the computer lets the opposition team play around with it well past the 2 mins added time and then when they finally approach the box they get the cheapest piece of sh*t penalty I've ever encountered. Trés annoying.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

Some mexican fouled Given in the world cup during normal time and got ayellow in last minute score 3-3 he dived and got sent off :D

I did foul him so injustice works both ways.

Well, first impressions on my 2 year old PC (512RAM, 256MB GeF6800, P3.. Latest drives installed).

It's good. Like the freedom of the players and movement, and the possbility of much more open and unpredictable play.
Zippy play seems better, but odd to get used to.
Ball physic seems very different. Something not quite right about it.
Graphics - colours and everything are sh*te to be honest. It's amazing what edited jerseys / turfs and other graphics can do to enhance this. Hope we done have to wait to long for kitserver!
I'm saying good and not great, as I never thought my initial view of any PES was 'WOW!! this is brilliant!'. You gotta give it a bit of time to see where it really shines and betters it's predecessors.

The edit mode... aaaarrggghhhhh!!! So picky and nowhere near as easy to navigate and use as PES06. WTF did they change it???

Big issue though... the dreaded slowdown is happening too often. Some slight slowdown during replays, but it's not too bad as it's like an 'action cam', but during play (even just build up when player goes near mine or slides...anywhere with complicated animation) it gets jerky.
I'm playing on medium setting and 1024x768. Oddly enough, the demo ran near perfect on same res but high setting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

Playing it on the 360 its not a whole lot faster than PES6 and I thought 6 was too slow anyway. Not too bad so far. The only thing that bugs me is the inability to get the ball of the opposition but when you turn they always seem to get it off you.

That and deflections especially from free outs in the box which end up bouncing off your defenders head!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,450 ✭✭✭Batesy

Its way faster than pes6 on the 360!

Also online is a complete joke at the moment. Played a game lost 8-4. The ball disappears and reappears up the other end of the pitch!! One minute I had the ball running up the pitch and next minute it appears back in my box and he scores!! Crazy.

I shot twice from a kick off and scored. Just went straight through his keeper.

Konami really need to sort this out. I know it happens every year but that doesn't make it alright. Surely they should test the online servers for weeks before release and iron out any issues! Grrrrr. Rant over.

Lucky ba*tards getting to play it. Not out here til next Friday :(

got two copies of it today (one each for me a nd my brother)

Played a couple of exhibitions on my console, (having set the console to 720 and installing the game) at the Orange Areana, with stadium effects turned off. Noticed a tiny bit of lag for about 2 seconds in one of the games. Rest of it ran smoothly. Wasn't a great fan of the way it played.

Then brought my brothers copies round to his, installed, set to 720, played a few games against him, and it was smooth as you like too. Played some great matches too - great fun, played an England vs Argentina game which is possible the most fun match i've had playing Pro Evo in ages.

    I'm liking it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,099 ✭✭✭Dean820

Its been fun to play so far.

We had one funny bit at one stage where Doyle scored and ran into the crowd and disappearred. Pretty funny at the time. Its probably a bug or something.

Played a few games of it there on the 360. I think i'll grow to love it but i'm crap at it at the moment, too used to fifa

Lag in the online match I played was very bad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,264 ✭✭✭witnessmenow

Fairly disappointed with the PS3 version myself. Looks great , like the new AI but the skipping on a next gen console is ridiculous! Its not unplayable, but very annoyed with konami! Replays are very laggy , but i'd live with that if game play was fine. Commentating is useless in my opinion "they've put in alot of effort in training lately, training twice a day which some player have been moaning about but it seems to be paying off" or something like that has been said 3 times in 10 matches, and it should never be said... its terrible commentating!. Pc version only runs on low on my laptop this year around, which appeared that all players have black hair(possibly my no-cd hack dont really no). My only hope is that it runs well on my pc at home(which it should)... but i'm far from a happy camper!:(

played a few gsmes now online on 360, the lag is very bad. with ball disappearing reapearing in other parts of the pitch. hope they can address this soon. other than that it not too bad

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 864 ✭✭✭Aedh Baclamh

It's pretty awful on the PS3 guys. Gameplay is superb and the animations look great, but the slowdown is really killing me. So disappointed in it at the moment. Playing it on a standard tv but to be honest that shouldn't affect slowdown.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 769 ✭✭✭EIREHotspur

The replays on the PS3 are bad but the game is good.....more arcade than last year although the inability to get the ball back from the opposition will lead to dribble addicts and plenty of 10-5 games online.

I think Seabass gave the game away when he talked up next years game ahead of this one. I never heard such damning previews to a Pr Evo game.
This is the stepping stone to the mecca which will be Pro Evo 2009 on the PS3 NEXT year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,564 ✭✭✭✭whiskeyman

I hate to say this but.... some of the very odd ball physics (at times it doen't decelerate properly) reminds me of playing a demo for FIFA07. It moves like a snooker or hockey ball at times.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 864 ✭✭✭Aedh Baclamh

Nah, that part of the game is perfect. Just because you press X or triangle and it doesn't reach the feet of your player doesn't mean the physics are all off. You have to be precise in your passing this time around, unlike the last version.

more than likely 2009 will be a stepping stone to 2010, Seabass talked the same ****e before last years pro evo.

Thats the biggest difference Ive noticed is that your really have to be spot on with your passing in this version.

lads its almost comically bad this year, like allot of people iv had ridiculous high scoring games, on and off line, first game against my mate was 7-5, never have we had such a high scoring game, its stupidly easy to score and beat people, i did read a review that was spot on refferring to the average players being able to go on crazy long runs.

i know it takes getting used to but really it doesnt bode well. it's nigh on impossible to defend, but like i said it's too easy to score, it wasnt that hard last year so why they needed to change it i dont know. does it remind anyone else of pro evo 4? a la long mazy runs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,191 ✭✭✭✭Shanotheslayer

I'm debating with myself weather to get it for PS2 or PC, I was always a PS2 Pes player but want to play with some board boys this year. But don't think my PC has the right spec.

    Gief spec for PES

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,488 ✭✭✭AdrianII

xbox live version of PES08 is a joke, cant see a thing when the opposition have the ball

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,825 ✭✭✭Mikeyt086

Konami are putting out a patch for PS3 and 360 online play, but tbh why didnt they just test the effin servers and avoid this whole mess?

Every year there is SOMETHING that needs fixing, Konami are a bit of a shambles at preparing and testing.

I played offline with my mates and we all loved it so much, they refused to leave my house because it was just so much fun, but then i took it online and its a completley different game, my first 3 games were 7-2, 5-3 and 7-5! wtf...

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 10,259 ✭✭✭✭Melion

Played it for about 3 hours today on the 360, have to say its class. Its a strange step from last years version but it is still very very good. As has been said, you have to be very exact with your passing and its too easy to go on long runs with every player(had Makelele run nearly the length of the pitch earlier) but its especially easy with the likes of Henry etc.

The gameplay is brilliant though which is what PES has always been about, cant wait to get it online(once they've fixed it)
