Yeah, go for the Tachihara. Think about Shen Hao as well, in or around the same price. Also should you find yourself in Paris with nothing to do, wander along here for no end of large format gear porn :)

I would love to play with that large format job , Ive been messing with a contax 645 for a while now , but realistically , it costs too much these days.
So I'll plant my feet firmly on the ground and say the 40D

I'd go along with mathias... large format looks velly intellesting but think of all the money you'd be putting down after the actual purchase of the camera for film and whatnot.

What do you have digital wise anyway?

Ah screw it.. get the large format :D

I guess you need a lot of time on your hands to go Large Format. So i'll choose it leave it on the shelf as an ornament and then wait till I retire. :) No doubt it'll still work in 25 years time. I've got the 40D and am pleased with it. But it comes a close second.

I guess it is one of those heart V's head questions. Practicality V's Passion....etc

I have plenty of experience with large format so I know what's involved, the Shen Hao I'm thinking of (the Tachihara picture was nicer) will easily go on the CF tripod I have, or on the heavy duty Manfrotto if it is not as stable as needed.

Any filters I buy for it will be as useful on the existing 20 and 5D's I have, so no problems there.

The only thing I'd be afraid of is buying a large format and then scanning the results in and working digitally anyway. I don't have access to a pro lab, so I'd be reliant on the mail service to get my contacts/slides to me.

The 150mm lens that comes with the kit won't be wide enough. I'd have to plum for a 90mm or 76mm to get a good wide angle lens. That may drive the price up a little though.

There's a lot of arguments against, but the large format system opens up a whole new world of possibilities and will beat Dslr's hands down when it comes to quality.

    Lens?

LF would be great and all, but it's more hassle, as you well know...

40D is a great body, but do you need it?

I think when you talk in terms of this kind of thing for an amateur then 'need' doesn't come into it. It's more a question of fun or desire.

    And stop being sensible.
