IMHO, the best movie I've ever seen. I just found it to be fricking hilarious. Ben Stiller was on a roll when he did that.

Will Ferrel as Mugatu will always have a place in my heart.

    Any other fans here?

Have you ever wondered if there was more to life, other than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?

Mugatu's hypnosis sequence is just snort inducingly funny, definitely Will Ferrills best moment on film.

    "OBEY MY DOG."

I loved that bit. His attempt to justify child labor was genius. I heard a "communist" use the exact same argument.

Everyone has a personal favorite scene in it. I know one guy who would collapse every time he heard the bit with
"Lee Harvey Oswald wasn't an actor"
"you're damn right he wasn't but those two lookers who capped Kennedy from the grassy knoll sure as hell were"

My own favorite scene is when he's working in the mines.
    "SURPRISE!"
    And in the bar afterwards.
"I think I'm getting the black lung pop, EH EH"
    "merman! MERMAN!"

"I was always the fat kid in my class"
    "Eww"

I love the bit at the end with his son and his first look.

    Or Magnum.

Every single actor in that movie were shining. I loved every minute of it.

I thought it looked stupid when i looked at it in the video shop but my friend convinced me to rent it out.

    How glad I was.

    Zoolander, what a classic!

"I can Dere-lick my own balls, thank you very much"

    Hilariously good movie

Well I guess it all started the first time I went through the second grade. I caught my reflection in a spoon while I was eating my cereal, and I remember thinking "wow, you're ridiculously good looking, maybe you could do that for a career."

No, you're not alone, I didn't particularly enjoy it either, but that could just be because I can't stand Ben Stiller.

Im not a fan of his either but I thought Zoolander wasnt in the least bit funny.
Dont get me wrong, there are some really dumb-a$$ movies I love but this really wasnt funny.
There were no decent gags, visual or otherwise and it tried to be satirical where it just wasnt.
    In my humble opinion anyway.;)

To each his own, but that's why we can debate over the internet.

Personally, I loved the movie. It was so wonderfully silly.

Will Ferrel has never surpassed what he achieved with Mugatu.

"who do you think made the wigs and frock coats so beloved by our countrys' forefathers?"
    "MUGATU!"
    "Slaves Derek."

Very funny movie , doesn't really stand up to alot of Ferells other movies thought, such as Old School,Anchorman etc. Stiller is a one-trick pony- hes been playing his 'Something About Mary' role for about 10 years now, and this movie was only good imo by Christine Taylor and Owen Wilson. If there was any justice, Talyor would be the big star in hollywood, and her husband[Stiller] the bit part player.

    You want a typecast character?

    Matt Perry(Chandler from Friends)

    ITS THE SAME BLOODY GUY!

I'll agree Old School was hilarious, I've never seen anchorman

why did ferrel have to do ELF?

Or did anyone see his anti-bush ads?

Zooland is one of the worst movies I have ever seen, dreadfully unfunny.

Bit off topic but, IMO, Ben Stiller isn't actually very funny, he was competent for a while.
He has being doing the same 'bit' in nearly every movie.
Anytime he tries to a funny skit for a live show (MTV/American Idol) it is horribly cringeworthy and deja vu'ish, oh look, you are really angry at everyone, again, hilarious.

He was in a few really funny movies, There's Something About Mary, Meet the Parents/Fockers.

He has done mostly sh1t since then and his movies have gotten worse and worse.

    my 3 cents.

I've lost count of the amount of times I've watched it, its so ridiculously funny, LOVE IT!

Mugatu: Todd! Are you not aware that I get farty and bloated with a foamy latte?

Not a fan of this one, he's done a lot better stuff. Would prefer Meet the Fockers.

Will Ferrell gets on my nerves mostly but "You're not the real Santa Claus" in Elf was a classic scene.

I didn't like it at first but the more i watched it the more i realised how brilliant it was.

One of the funniest movies I have ever seen. I could love it for the petrol station scene alone.

    Divided opinion so.

Can't say it really bothers me, I thought it was stoopid at first but it grew on me. A lot.

Not to mention the walk off

Also, "You think you're too cool for school, but I've got a newsflash for you Walter Kronkite........ you're aren't

Ah what a film. Just so corny and a complete piss take. I've watched it loads of times and the gags are still hilarious.

The only film that I've been able to tolerate Will Ferrell in (well Stranger than Fiction wasn't so bad but the rest....).

sorry but Old School is the best ferrell has done, and remains the bloke bible for us 30 somethings!

This will always have a special place in my heart. I would disagree with the people who say this performance is standard Stiller. For me it's an entirely different beast from his usual ineffectual nice guy routine which I'm not fond of.

In my opinion hugely quotable and stands up to repeated viewings.

    "orange moka frappacinos!!"

Top 5 Will Ferrell Roles go:

    1: Ron Burgondy: Anchorman
    2: Mugatu: Zoolander
3: Harold Crick: Stranger Than Fiction
    4: Buddy the Elf: Elf
5: Frank The Tank: Old School.

I have only ever liked Stiller in 2 movies this and Something About Mary.

Ah my humble apologies. He is brilliant in that.

Can't understand the whole Anchorman thing. Saw it for the first time there about two months ago and it's just not funny. Worse than Talladega Nights and that's saying something.

^ completely agree i hated both anchorman and telladega nights.

Have you seen ferrell's first feature film, a night at the roxbury? I know people like that!!!

EMILIO!!!! Ha yeah it had it's moments alright. Scores bonus points for use of Haddaway's 'What Is Love?' as it's main song.

Anchorman not funny? Have you gone mad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,031 ✭✭✭Lockstep

Old school is very very good.
    Will Ferrel did very well
    Running naked "theres more coming!"

But it cannot stand up to Zoolander.

I agree with Aurel. Stiller does his "well meaning, indecisive nice guy" routine a lot.
    Zoolander is very different.

+1 . Anchorman is THE definitive piss take comedy film.

Tal. Nights was funny in parts, not great though- still alot better than Zoolander though

Completely forgot about Anchorman and Stranger than Fiction in my last post.Figures..........Stranger than Fiction was a great movie, but I just felt Ferrell was playing against too strong actors in the other roles[Hoffman,Watson etc]for him to make much of an impact.

Come on guys, Zoolander is a modern day cult classic! Up there with The Big Lebowski. It gets better each time you watch it.

I love Will Ferrell, the guy cracks me up, but Mugatu eclipses anything he's done before or since.
