    Hi,

I am waiting for Leopard to buy a new mac (mini or iMac). While checking reviews on the 20 in iMac, I came across a problem which a lot of users are having, namely the difference in light intensity between the top and bottom of the screen, the top being darker and in some cases nearly "washed out" at the bottom. This issue is discussed here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1073705&tstart=15

and images are shown here http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=4274790&postcount=8

Has anyone who has purchased a 20in iMac from the Apple Irish store experienced this problem?

    Thanks.

A customer of mine got a new iMac a week ago and the screen was fine, I'd have noticed anything that obvious. It may have been a problem with the first release models maybe ?

    I've also seen the 24" model - Gen 1 - Stunning screen !!

You could always see one in a 3G store or the O2 Experience shop before you buy. Another option is a Mac Mini and buy a 22" display elsewhere.

My Dad has this problem, for the first few weeks it was just a "flickering" screen but apparently its getting much worse :(

    Hi,

Just an update on this problem. I was in PC World yesterday and checked this out. If you set the desktop to solid grey you can see the problem quite clearly,(just like in the web link) especially when you compare it to a 24 inch with a similar grey background. A lot of people on the Apple discussions site are not happy campers......

My brother's business bought 3 new 20" iMacs recently (replacing iMac G3's!) and there are no problems with them, but I did have issues with my white Intel iMac - letting the display go to sleep means that it comes back flickering madly (the longer it was asleep, the worse the flickering is). Setting the display to never go to sleep before the whole computer sleeps works fine. This problem doesn't exist on the three new iMacs.
