Yeah don't start! Its worse than smoking. pokertips.org is a site I had a look at when I started. The best thing to do is get a rough idea of the game then jump into some low limit games and post a few hand historys here and people will be able to give you some good pointers. All the sites have games that cost less than $10 to buy which is where most people start.

Come into my parlour said the spider to the fly.

Don't mind these lads chuck , it's a fantastic game , that teaches you maths, psychology, mental agility, patience, and ruthlessness. Those who told you not to play, well they are the boyz who haven't learned the ruthless part. (me neither)
Plenty of internet places out there chuck, and in Easons there are several books on beginner Poker.

Btw. There is a 200 Euro rebuy on tonight in the Sporting Emporium chuck, come in , bring your friends.

    ***before you start***
If your young nephew proudly shows you his 300 Euro communion stash and you immediately think of this as his 1st bankroll and how a good life lesson would be for him to lose that bankroll to you in a wee game....well then poker is for you.
