    Hey all,

Just so you know, I'm a 17 year old student and as part of my coursework I have a photography project due at the end of December. I have kinda chosen to do mainly abstract stuff aswell. As part of my research and investigation, I decided to take some of my ideas on my camera phone in preparation for actually taking them on an SLR with B/W film. So, that's the reason for them being black and white and also a bit grainy but please comment on some of the shots and ideas please.

    optical zoom.

I'm not sure if all old SLR cameras are like this but the ones that we are gonna be given to use don't have any zoom or anything on them so I tried not to zoom in on anything while taking them.

    It's a Sony Ericsson something-or-other. It's about 2 years old and it's got a two megapixel camera.....That's all I know about it :D

Thanks, I like that one myself.

Unfortunatly, I actually shot them with a black and white effect on the phone, so there is no way of showing you what it's like in colour. I really should have took them all in colour and photoshopped (GIMPed) them but hey, I'll know for again :)

    Thanks again.

Oh noes! It knows my name?! ;)

Erm....it's a "dirt cheap" (an actual quote from my lecturer) and therefore crappy SLR. I don't think it's a very well known make. I'll find out tomorrow though.

I realise now, that if I straightened the camera a bit more for some of the photos, it would greatly improve them. Well, imo ;)

I really like the second one with the black lines running through it. It reminds me of a cover for a Godspeed you Black Emperor album.

Does your project have to have some sort of theme? You're obviously into the strong, geometric compositions which makes this lot work well as a set - but when you say 'comment on the ideas' what ideas do you mean? Did you have something specific in mind when you were shooting them?

I don't really have a set theme beyond abstract photography on the College Campus. I'm not really sure what I meant when I said "comment on my ideas" now.... :o

the brilliant for a camera on a phone. If your project is abstract why don't you submit the pictures as they are in a way that's abstract, Or do you have to process the film an print the pictures

I like the picture of the wind turbine. the contrast of the concrete stand for the hydrant sign and the new shiny turbine is nice. Also nicely framed.

I also like the picture of the glass roof, but i like looking at interesting architecture so am a little biased. Love the perspective lines in it. Would it be possible to show more of the "dissappearing" horizon?

    keep it up...

I really like them all, and I agree with the poster who said they make a fine set. It's amazing that's a camera phone too! Best of luck with your studies.

Quite like these myself, maybe some tigher cropping and/or viewing angles when you take them for real might help the composition, purely to keep the viewer guessing. They are definately shots worth exploring again. I have to come up with some abstract images for our clubs next league entry myself so at the moment i'm constantly looking around for shape and patterns!

Cool. Thanks a million for all your kind responses. I might take them again but actually take my time and compose them better. There are some that are just a bit wonky and they would be greatly improved (I'd imagine ;)) if I just straightened it up a bit.

    Thanks again :D
