Toilet attendants, YES OR NO?.

Since there's been alot of talk about pubs/clubs with attendants in the toilets I thought I'd throw up a poll and see what the general opinion was.

Personally I hate it. I find it a little embarressing having someone watch me take a piss, or look at me coming out of the cubicle after dropping one.

I just don't like it, any part of it.

Personally i don't care either way.

I don't find the presence of a toilet attendant to be any worse than the drunk as **** guy in the corner who insists on talking to everyone who walks past him.

I hate them. I went into the toilet at Brown Thomas and there was a woman looking at me like she thought I'd steal the expensive soap or something. I wonder how much they get paid for this? :rolleyes:

The worst part is when they stare at you as you wash your hands, after staring at you as you stood at the urinal and then expect a tip for doing so. Any where else and they'd be arreasted for it.

I hate it. It's a joke that you are expected to tip a guy when he hand you paper to dry your hands after taking a slash. I used to feel guilty when i ignored their pleading looks as i failed to tip them, but now i couldn't give a toss tbh. It's expensive enough to go out in this country already.

Not being mean but I agree -- why should you have to tip someone who's handing you paper you could have gotten yourself - only you'd no choice because they have the paper & they're handing it to you.
And I don't like to think of someone out there whilst I'm going to the loo -- stage fright and all that.

I know everybody has to work etc..

I know of a restaurant in Cambodia - where the guy used to follow you in and give you massages (in the gents obv) (and no I'm a girl but the manager I was with warned us just incase) WHILST you were going... like when a guy was at the urinal...there'd be someone doing karatechop thingys on his back...
Suffice to say I was a little worried when passing him to go to the ladies...
instead 3 native girls starting rubbing my skin (cuz I'm white) and being amazed at it... trying to get out was just as fun - the guy who gives the massages was nearly in the door to give me tissues...

i hate being made feel guilty for not tipping every time i go for a slash.

plus they always offer a bit of toilet roll to dry your hands when you would prefer to use the dryer or the hand towel anyway.

plus they are all african guys doing a job that i would never do. It makes me feel very uncomfortable. I think it is unhealthy in terms of racial integration here - african immigrants sacrificing their pride to do demeaning jobs, relying on handouts from drunks in the jacks.

Everyone seems to be taking it very personally. I can only feel sorry for the person working in the jacks, it's the pub/club in question that would employ someone for this that pisses me off.

I do agree -- I was just afraid to bring it up incase people thought I was belittling them. I don't think anyone should be a bathroom servant (obv medical things all excluded)

lol, I didn't know that, and to be honest, it changes things completely. I would have assumed that they were actively employed by the pubs/clubs. Or the pubs/clubs at least went out seeking people for the spot.

Is this the case across the board?

God I've never listened to such a moany bunch of stinges ever. What's 3 quid in a night to most of us? Nothing. If you ever bothered to talk to them you'd find out they're really sound guys, most of them, and are either studying over here or just trying to have a better life for themselves. You think they like watching you taking a piss? You think they're there for the laugh? Calling them "c'nuts" as someone did in a post earlier is unbelievable. I'd say you're a real nice guy.
So maybe next time stop being so self conscious and say hi. And don't worry so much about all his "tax free" earnings he's getting :rolleyes:, and give him a quid.

If a bar/club had a capacity for (say) 500 people, and each used the loo three times per night and threw the cvnts a Euro everytime thats a nice €1500 earner.

One of the last bar's I worked in had a lad who told me that he usually makes upwards of €500 a night, while I was getting €15 per hour.

Well about 3 years ago my brother was talking to one of the guys and asked him why he would belittle himself doing that job and the guy just smiled at him and said "because I make about €400 a night my friend, maybe 5-600 on a very good night or 300 on a bad night, that's why!"

When my brother told me that, I asked another guy one night and got a similar story, when I jokingly said, I might just take up the job myself, he just laughed at me and said, "I don't think a white boy would make the same kind of money, all the drunks like to give the black man money to show they're not racist!" - Probably true
