Have you ever done this in a bookies?

well the missus was in the chemist and I as usual used my chance to go to the bookies for a quick one. Saw this chinese/oriental lad sticking 50 on number 8. Had a look and saw the race he was going for and decided I would change my preference to his horse (never look at other peoples horse or what they do but I did this time (after betting for 20 something years)) anyhow the horse was 'savethelastdanceforme' in the curragh and came in at 4/1, not bad.

Question: have ye ever done this? Is there luck in it? I dunno! but I dont want to think my luck lies in stealing a luck over other peoples shoulders.?? not good? let me know!

its called clutching at straws -dont abandon 20 years experience for something that happened by coincidence -if you would have waited around for the rest of the day im sure you would have seen the oriental guy give his winnings and more back to the bookies -in my opinion the best way to win long term is to actually stay out of bookies shops ,bet online or by phone where you dont have distractions from the high stool jockeys

When I'm with my friends betting it's only after I've made my bet do I ask them what they went for. More often than not we go for the same pick.

Well if you you are following that rule get some cash onto Almiyan in the 335 at Fairyhouse, I've just seen a guy put €1000 on it at 5/1 in Ladbrokes

The morning price was 14's so someone made even more on it

Yeah. I just missed out on the 9's. Got at 7's though. My point was that he backed it at 5/1 for a large stake when 7's was available!

If he was not a mug he would have made sure he was getting the best price about him, still, happy days!

Very surprising that he wouldn't have looked around for the best price given the amount of money, maybe he hadn't time or whatever. Still, the guy won 5 grand today so not for us to be calling him a mug!

one way to get a large bet on is to take skinnier odds so the bookie can lay off accordingly ,everyones a winner -maybe the guy was just lazy but 5 grand up is not a bad days work ,and maybe thats what separates the really good gamblers from everyday gamblers ,not worrying about the best price ,the wedge inyour pocket at the end of the day is what counts

In fairness ladbrokes are about the only firm who lay a proper bet these days. Guys on betfair (bigger punters than myself) are always giving out about VCbet. Cosing guys accounts after one big win etc. I'm the type of punter who'll be rarely (if ever) knocked back due to the size of my stakes.

    Back to following the money........

I remember my first trip to Cheltenham in 2003. One of the guys saw JP McManus back coolnagorna with freddie williams at 5/1. Imediately cut it to 4/1. Said in the Racingpost next day he aid a bet of 150k at 5/1 ( I assue that was JP's bet. Yer man had 200 sterling each way at 5s with another bookie. Horse was 2nd, no harm done we all thought then was thrown out in the stewards. He was not a happy man!!

I never gamble more than a £10 a week and the bookies owe me a few bob ,mainly form loss's on the football , but i rekon i have won over the last few years about £5000 on the 3 ball irish lotto , i never change my numbers now after making the mistake of doing so a few times....:)
