Defected to PS3

I was in a little department store over the weekend in my girlfriends home town and was browsing around the games section when I noticed a couple of PS3 Starter Packs stuffed in the bottom of a glass cabinate.

Much to our disappointment an in-store flyer said they were €599 :(. Then I insisted herself ask the store clerk how much they were and he said the last few were reduced to €499 :D , "sorted" I thought , some of the fabled Starter Packs, must grab a bargain.

Anywho, that was the final decider between another Xbox360 (I had 10 of them ) and a PS3. When I got it home I was really pleasantly surprised how solid it is compaired to the 360 and how sexy it is with the black and chrome.

Haven't tried it on a HD tv yet but I'm very happy with how smooth the games play and the sound quality through a standard stereo tv is great.

Having been a strict Xbox 360 player for a year or so I'm not really familar with the whole PS3 scene so I'm not really that familar with the games etc. Anything I should watch out for and is the range going to get any bigger before christmas ??

How the hell did you manage to get hrough 10 360's, i knew it had reliability issues but 10!!!!!

Haze and Drakes fortune next month. If u can rent it, i'd recommend heavenly sword beautiful game but ridiculously short. Motorstorm is a must, resistance is a good fps for a console. Also on play NBA 2K7 for 28 quid, is good fun.

Best place i found for coming releases.

Got a launch day machine and had one faulty refub after the other, I even have the emails in a folder in my inbox to prove it. I was going to get an Elite but then decided against it when my missus reminded me of the screaming matches with Xbox support.

Theres a good few games coming out between now and Christmas.
    Examples:
    Uncharted drakes fortune
    assassins creed
    call of duty 4
    kane and lynch: dead men
    half life orange box
The newest area 51 game is out next week I think. Lots of the games I mentioned are multiplatform but that's no reason not to get them on your new ps3.

Its sad that Ms screw their customers around so badly.

The first thing that hit me when I got my 360 was the poor build quality. Its scratched discs on me (without me moving it surprise surprise) but other than that, I've had no serious problems.

Fingers crossed I won't. Going through 10 makes it sound like they were just throwing out refurbs that had the same problems as the original. You'd think you'd move up the priority queue to get one that works after a while.

Ratchet and Clank is out in a few weeks aswell. Pro Evo 2008 is out on Friday. Warhawk is a must buy if you have your PS3 online, it's great fun. I'd download it rather than buying it on disc though, unless you want the headset.

Download it ??? Can I download normal games instead of buying them on disc ?

Eye of Judgment is out this week. A bit expensive (although you could import cheaper..), but it's getting good reviews and it's something a bit different (and it comes in a classy box). Some other eyetoy games will be downloadable off the store also.

Anyways, I'd recommend Resistance, Motorstorm, VF5, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword (maybe a rental, but you should play it), and maybe Folklore depending on taste. There's various good multiplatform stuff too (skate, oblivion etc.) but if you've already played them on 360 there's not much point in mentioning them. From the online store, I'd recommend Tekken HD, Super Stardust HD, Everyday Shooter, fl0w, Locoroco, Gripshift..some of the PSone stuff is nice too.

You also should definitely download GT5 Prologue demo from the Japanese store, and some of the other demos.

Stuff I'm looking forward to between now a Xmas - Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, Singstar, CoD4, Wipeout HD, Rockband (is it still coming out for Xmas here?), Pro Evo, Assassin's Creed, The Orange Box, Eye of Judgement..don't know if I'll be able to buy them all, but I'd like to in an ideal world!!

No, just Warhawk, because it's a multiplayer only game. I think it's 30 euro on the PS Store.

I went through 4 before giving up so doesn't surprise me. Of course I'm weak willed and gonna buy an Elite as soon as it has some games I want.

I think some of the best of what PS3 has to offer is on the PSN store. Go online, try some demos, and download some of the downloadable games (I guess you could call them the equivalent of Live Arcade but they tend to be vastly superior, much closer to what you'd expect of disc based games)

Games I'd recommend downloading would be Loco Roco, possibly the greatest value game ever, along with Stardust HD, Gripshift, Tekken if you're into fighters, Calling All Cars for multiplayer fun (only if you're all in the same room) and Warhawk for online play, though Warhawk is much more expensive than the others.

Then there's the demos of Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm, DiRT, Folklore and GRAW 2 which would be the pick of the bunch, but there's dozens more. And if you set up a Japanese account and American account (very easy to do, there's guides online) then you can play the Ratchet & Clank demo from the US and the gorgeous Gran Turismo 5 Prologue demo from Japan.

I'd spend a lot of time doing that before bothering with any retail games just yet if I was you. The demos will give you a fair idea, but full games I'd recommend most highly are Heavenly Sword, Folklore and Formula 1, but its all down to taste obviously.

Before Christmas the top games would probably be:
    Ratchet & Clank
    Haze
    Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
    Call of Duty 4
    Assassin's Creed

And the usual suspects like Burnout, the yearly sports games, guitar hero etc.

I too recently got a PS3 after being a 360 gamer for the past year. There's nothing wrong with my 360, and I'm still on my first one, but the PS3 price drop appealled to my impulse nature! (Damn them!)

Anyway, any multi-platform games I'm interested in I pretty much already have for the 360, and at the moment I'm not that impressed with the PS3's exclusives line up.

One thing I will say though is that Heavenly Sword is awesome. I know some people have already recommended it as a rental because of the short play time (6-7 hours), but I'd disagree and say that the game should be bought. A game's value shouldn't be determined soley on the lenght of time it takes to finish it, and I've had more fun and more "Aw yeah!" moments with Heavenly Sword than I've had with many other games 2 or 3 times as long as it. The development team, Ninja Theory, deserve to be rewarded and acknowledged by gamers for this top class production, and if you're not extremely short of cash at the moment, I'd buy it. It's short, but it IS worth it.

If you can't actually afford to buy it, then yes, rent it and experience it.

    Just my two cents.
