Just got a shiny new silver Nintendo DS along with the new Zelda and I'm wondering what the essential games for the handheld are?

Right now, looking at Castlevania and Advance Wars as my next purchases. Is Final Fantasy III worth getting?

Finally is Final Fantasy Tactics coming out on the DS or is it strictly a PSP title?

Everytime this thread comes my same answer is: Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, or should you not wish to import, Elite Beat Agents.

Zelda is probably the best, but sure you have that already :)

    Master of the Universe

Off the top of my head some of my favs are,

Zelda Phantom Hourglass - Best so far!
    New Super Mario Bros
    Castlevania Dawn Of Sorrow
    Advance Wars Dual Strike
    Final Fantasy III
    Tetris DS
    Warioware Touched
    Sonic Rush Adventure
    Taiko no Tatsujin DS
    Kirby Power Paintbrush
    Worms Open Warfare 2
    Trauma Center: Under the Knife

    There are many many more.

Some popular titles I'm extremely meh about -

Mario Kart DS - yawn..seen it all before. It's a good game. But if you've played all the others, it's not worth spending the guts of 50 euro on. Even finding multiplayer boring at this point.
Metroid Prime: Hunters - Looks great, but the control scheme completely cramps my left hand up. To the point where I can't play any more.
Nintendogs - I just don't get it. Although I'll assume it's mostly played by children. :D

Advance Wars is the best DS game I've played so far. Make that your number one priority. Second, Mario 64 for the DS is alot of fun. I like Resident Evil and so when RE: Deadly Silence came out I naturally had to get it. It's basically the first RE game for the PsX with some new touches like the use of the stylus. It's really the only mature/horror game I can think of.

Worms, Sonic Rush, Elite Beat Agents, Trauma Centre, New Mario Bros. & Brain Training are all worth a look.

Plenty of good recommendations, but I really have to quote and lime this for ultimate truth:

Anno 1701 is a great game. Similar to the Settlers and Sim city if anybodies wondering. It hasn't sold well either so you can get it for 30 euro as well.

Retr0 you really need to crack down on this R4 thing...

I got an R4 a few months ago, it's excellent, my PSP has been relegated to dust collector again.

As for Final Fantasy Tactics on the DS I would tell everyone to avoid this game. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance was a poor game on the GBA, really boring and this on is being handled by the same team with no changes to the game play.

If you want a Final Fantasy Tactics game then get a PSP with the PS1 port of Final Fantasy Tactics, it's one of the greatest games ever made. The DS and GBA games are totally different and really poor.

Even if you don't want to buy a PSP and want a game like FF tactics then just don't buy it. There are far better Strategy games out there like Advance Wars and if you must have an RPG story with your strategy game then the 2 GBA Fire Emblem games are fantastic and much better than that FF Tactics Advance muck.

Import Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! as soon as you can. It's awesome.

What are you talking about, I didn't say one thing that was against the rules? R4 has more options than just the obvious one. Also its handy for games you own as you only need to bring around one cartridge. Some of the homebrew is excellent, port of the original doom, Emulators for snes genisis/megadrive nes, media and a homebrew internet browser ... the thing is bloody awesome!

Dealextreme.com is the cheapest as far as i know, and if i were you i'd go for DS lite essential pack, for an extra few euro you get a case , spare stylus, usb charger and a screen protector as well as an R4 card with a 1gb micro sd

I have no problem with people discussing the R4 unless they mention using it to play copied games or intend to us use it as such.

I had such a device. It uses the battery up a lot faster than the regular cartridges, and as such takes away one of the DS' best features. Needless to say I got rid of. Its still nice to own genuine copies of games, and DS games aren't that expensive.

    My favourites in order...

    Zelda
    Super Mario 64
    Advance Wars
    Pokemon
    Tony Hawks American Skateland
    Need For Speed Underground

    All superb!!

Maybe you had one of the earlier, beefier flash carts? Have to say there is no noticeable difference on battery usage with the R4.. lasts for days..

You can get MSN on the DS now with R4 if anyone wasn't aware btw! Look for "Beup Live"

I'm having a great time with Rub Rabbits at the moment.
It's even better, and much longer, than Feel the Magic.

Dementium: The Ward is an interesting game. Only just got it so it'd hard to say how it plays long term.
