    Hey all,
I have some .avi files... Have not found a converting software that can deal with them... there "corrupt" they play in vlc great, but i cannot get them onto dvd.... so if no converter can do it... I can use a screen capture device? correct? I heard of that before but where can I get one and what type of recording does it do quality/video/audio.... etc. Can the vlc player record the vids i play and put them in a proper format? Thanks :)

Is it possible that you need to install some codecs to play them in programs other then VLC?

You can download the Combined Community Codecs Pack from here & It's free

This is a free Screen Capture/Recording software.

But this is mainly used for creating training videos or recording screen key strokes for tutorials.

Sorting out the original problem (AVI's won't play) is the better option.

Using screen capture software for what you want to do wouldn't be a great idea.

vlc should be able to convert the files for you, haven't tried to make dvd compatible output, but don't see why it wouldnt work

guide here for mp4 output, of course for dvd compatible files you have to change the output setting
