Media Sharing PC to PS3...WMV issue?

I just set my PS3 and PC so I can stream my music from my PC to the PS3.

Got everything working, and have been streaming music to my PS3. Cool a boola :), a very happy bunny.

But I noticed that when playing WMV music files that the playback sometimes "stutters". Anyone else have this issue or something similar?

    My set-up is:
    **********
PC connected to my eircom netopia router via the ethernet cable, and my PS3 is connecting wirelessly to the netopia router. I also use Comodo firewall, with the relevant ports open to allow the PS3 to see my shared media.

not sure but i would assume the ps3 doesn't use wmv as a proprietry format so it's being converted on the fly, so the stuttering is the system trying to catch up with the stream, and being unsuccessful

Ok, thats a possibility, but the PS3 has a setting to allow WMV playback (which I have on), so it seems odd it would convert on the fly, but I suppose you can't rule it out.

    Cheers

Are you using any software on your PC as a media centre ? ie Nero Media Home, TVersity, Windows Media etc ?

I use Nero MH and it works great.
If you copy a WMV file to the PS3 and run it from there does it stutter?
Could be a traffic issue on your network?

I'm just using Windows Media Player 11 on XP. I haven't tried coyping a WMV to the PS3, I'll give that a go.

I hope there isn't a traffic issue on my network, I'm the only one on it !!! (I hope!!)

    Check Orb or TVersity.

Both will convert the media to a format supported by the PS3 or 360
(on the fly) and then act as a media-server and stream it to the
    console.

I'd reccomend TVersity. If the media format is supported by the equipment it just steams it, otherwise it converts (transcodes) on the fly for you - If your PC is up to it.

It's a really handy piece of kit and free too. Can't go too far wrong.

I had problems with TVersity thats why i switched to NERO media home.
So there is options if you cant get it going.

The PS3 has gone up notches in my book lately since ive been streaming music/video and downloading games etc

Try the RedKawa Media Server for PS3 http://www.redkawa.com/ scroll down the page and you will find it.
and if you have a WII there is a server for that to and video converters.

I thought the ps3 would only play back windows audio files and not video?
